South Africa will confront Japan in a friendly game on June 29 in Nagano Prefecture before squaring up against Nigeria in their first group game of the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
The Dream Team VI face Makoto Teguramori’s side in their opening game of the competition on August 4 at the Amazônia Arena Manaus.
The east Asians will be making their sixth appearance in the quadrennial competition and must dust off challenges from the Samson Siasia’s side, Colombia and Sweden in Group B.
“We haven’t had too many matchups against African teams so this will be an excellent opportunity to test ourselves,” coach Teguramori told Japantimes.
Should Japan get out of its group, Makoto Teguramori’s squad could face South Africa, from Group, A in the quarterfinals.
Japan will first try Ghana for size on May 11 at the Best Amenity Stadium, Tosu in a friendly encounter.
