Nigerians are suffering beacause PDP failed to plan for 'raining day' - Buhari laments

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja said that the 16 years rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed to plan for Nigeria's raining day despite high revenue from oil during the period.

He spoke at the Presidential Villa while receiving the President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Dr Bernard O. Aliyu.

For the greater part of the last 16 years, he noted that Nigeria's oil was sold above $100 per barrel.
Buhari, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, however regretted that Nigeria did not have much to show for the high revenue.

He said: "In the First Republic, more enduring infrastructure was built with meagre resources. But in the past 16 years, we made a lot of money without planning for the rainy day.

"We showed a lot of indiscipline in managing our economy, and that is why we are where we are today. But this time round, we'll do our best." He added

He harped on the need to ensure that the potentials of Nigeria are urgently harnessed and used for the good of the country.

He added: "Nigeria needs to work on her potentials, so that we don't remain permanently at the level of potentials.

"If Ethiopia is sustained largely by her airline industry, we have greater potentials here.

But we must move out, engage with the rest of the world, as we need to re-establish the integrity of this country. We need to rebuild this country again." He said

Dr Aliyu, the Nigerian-born ICAO president commended President Buhari for strides on anti- corruption, and urged Nigeria to pay more attention to development of civil aviation.

"Civil aviation is a catalyst for economic development. The level of aviation development in any country mirrors the economic development of that country," Dr Aliyu said.

He also pledged to support the development of the aviation industry in Nigeria, urging the country to improve on training and capacity development, aviation security, aerodromes and air navigation, runways, control towers, terminal buildings, among others.

  2. And your beloved rogue Rotimi Ameachi took his fellow governors to raid our savings at the federal account. Think for yourself before you repeat Lai's lies. If GJ was clueless what does that now make you?

  3. Sir, point of correction! It was the governors forum led by your Rotimi Amaechi / APC 'governors that took Jonathan and fin. minister to court, demanding that the funds saved in sovereign wealth account be shared and not the other way round. Please note that Nigerians are not foolish nor are we suffering from amnesia.

I'm very sure if he was the one he would have sign the budget without looking into details... I'm not appraising this government yet.. But Jonathan weakness cost us a lot they feed on his weakness no doubt he has good intentions but his weakness limited him.. For this govt meet me after 2 year to analyze there performance cos a child of 9 months can't find its footing firmly on the ground

    1. You know a government that will perform from the beginning of its administration. After almost a year and you are saying it is too early to access. I challenge you to count the achievements of different governments (Obasanjo and Jonathan) at least in education, road construction, youth employment steady fuel supply and electricity generation, you will see that Jonathan beat him. With the rate the current administration is performing, the will be the worst. Even Obasanjo acknowledged that Buhari has more money to work with than himself.

  6. Lame excuse, if you don't know what to do or may be you are confused, is it not better that you throw in the towel. Stop blaming pdp for cluelessness. Pdp did not plan for the rainy day, fine, supposing you did not anticipate that rain will fall and you did not arrange your drums before going out and before you come back, you discover that it rained, won't you make do with alternative? So pls sir, stop blaming pdp for your inefficiency. Excuses, excuses and many more excuses till your tenure runs out. It is only the empty drum that makes the loudest noise. Ike adighi okwuru agbapu ana,osi na ana siri ike. (if the okro seed is weak to penetrate the ground, it will claim that the ground is too strong.

  12. Why are not objcetive and think deeply befoe we critizie . What is wrong in our president crtizing the last goverment that they did not plan for the raining day. I pity us nigerians if all we want is a magician tgat will come and deceive us all tge time and his not ready to look at tge past regime activities each time we have a new goverment and this madness dont stop. Then, nigeria dont have future. Even in the develop countries like USA, uK.etc the goverment always critize tge previous regimes on tgeir failures and sometimes call tgem back to answer some queries. Nigeria has been reduced to nothing abd yet nibody is putting presure on the governent to bring back jonathan for explanations but rather we prefer to put down a man that is ready to bring sanity. Well if we miss tgem and the looters back then bye bye nigeria.

  15. Buhari has nothing to offer absolutely. Can he tell us how he has impacted positively on the Nigerian populace since he assume office? Why is he trying to look for excuses to cover up for his ineffectiveness? Nigerians are suffering, start doing your work please

  16. Blame game always, today they will blame the Jonathan, tomorrow they blame the marketers on on on. People are dying, suffering all over. Am even surprise that is now that the NLC is waking up to protest. NLC is one of the tool that can push this bunch of illiterates to step away from their comfort zone and find a solution for this country. Just as I have said before and after the election, Buhari has not intellectual capacity to rule this country, above all he sorrounds himself with rogues like Amaechi, Ndume etc.

  18. The truth is bitter. 16 yrs of PDP add nothing to the country. And we cant compare the situation then with what we have now. The diff is clear.

Country like Qatar (the riches country in the world) that saved for the raining day is being affected by the current economy, then how much more Nigeria.
They have increase fuel price, electricity bills, poster bill, sacked some government workers etc. Al- Jazeera just sack some workers recently.

Let us stop criticism and support the government. That is the way to go. You cant do more than the the resources you have.
    Let us be patient enough

  19. This buari of a president is annoying. When nigerians voted for him we new there were problems and wanted solution. Pls Mr president stop blame and do your work. Nigerians are sufering like they never did. The country in on shameful position under your care

  21. Those who fought to make sure we have no savings but share excess earnings from crude oil are in APC today smiling and pointing accusing fingers to PDP. I am referring to ex-Governors forum chairman (Amaechi and Bukola Saraki). The fought to make sure earnings were shared between the three tiers of Government

  22. The sorry stae of nigerian affairs is borne down to the fact that we still allow our forefathers to dictate present realities. Seriously, what do they know. Buhari for instance don't even have a WAEC, what can an old man like that produce other than passing blame almost a year in office. Nigeria I pity thee

  23. Voting Buhari and the Apc into power is a very costly mistake Nigerians made and it's regretable.Sorry!

  24. APC is incompetent and doesn't has any clear agenda for Nigeria, that's while these complaints and blames on PDP.

Pls can APC simply answer this: if PDP is still in office, would Nigeria degenerate to this worst state? Am sure the answer is a big NO

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nigerians and especially those that insisted that Buhari and his APC inner caucus agenda be enthroned in Nigeria should better begin asking God for mercy. And then His divine intervention. You may not have realised it but Buhari is seriously working (on the agenda that brought him in). The next thing Nigerians you will hear is: He will pretend and try to used the Arab world to solve Nigeria's problem and introduce what he has been on since he came in.

We need serious prayers in this nation. God alone can save us from these deceivers.
