Mourinho offered Syria national team job

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been offered a return to the management game but it is perhaps not the opportunity he has been holding out for.

The Portuguese has been without a job since being dismissed by the Blues in December 2015, with Chelsea having made a dismal start to the season, suffering nine defeats from their opening 16 games.

Mourinho has been heavily linked with the Manchester United job ever since he was shown the door at Stamford Bridge, although Goal understands that the Red Devils remain behind Louis van Gaal despite a disappointing season.

It appears that there is an offer on the table from elsewhere, however, with the Syrian FA having posted a request they have sent to Mourinho's agency inviting him to take charge of their national team.

The post on their official Facebook page reads: "After a meeting between the president of the Syrian Football Federation; Salahuddin Ramadan, the vice-president of the Syrian Union Chairman of the national teams, the director of the first team, Fadi Dabbas and secretary-general of the Syrian Football Federation Qutaiba al-Rifaiit, it was agreed to send a formal offer to the agency of the coach Jose Mourinho to train the Syrian national football team."
