Getafe 1-5 Real Madrid: Los Blancos Run Riot in Madrid Derby

Real Madrid moved to within one point of FC Barcelona, after they defeated Getafe 5-1 in a La Liga clash on Saturday afternoon.

Los Blancos were denied an opener by the woodwork in the 16th minute, as Cristiano Ronaldo let the ball run across his body before rifling an effort against the underside of the crossbar.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, as Karim Benzema turned home James Rodriguez's cross from the right.

Real were in full control and deservedly doubled their lead in the 40th minute, as Isco collected a pass from Benzema, before calmly slotting past Guaita.

The lead was extended five minutes after the halftime break, as Benzema picked up his second assist to tee up Gareth Bale for the close range finish, 3-0.

James Rodriguez squandered a chance to grab a fourth goal in the 63rd minute, as the Colombian failed to trouble Guaita from close range, after some good work by Lucas Vazquez.

Getafe nearly reduced the deficit in the 78th minute, but Keylor Navas produced a fine save to keep out Pablo Sarabia's in-direct free-kick in the box.

Getafe managed to grab a consolation goal in the 83rd minute, as Navas was beaten by a fine strike from Sarabia, 3-1.

However, Los Blancos managed to snatch a fourth goal in the 88th minute courtesy of well-taken finish from Rodriguez, after some good work by Vazquez.

While, there was enough time to get a fifth goal when Jese Rodriguez teed up Ronaldo for the easiest of tap-ins to round off an emphatic victory on the road.
