The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has said that the Federal Government will give urgent attention to the rehabilitation of the Ilorin-Jebba Road.
He said this would become a reality as soon as the proposed N433 billion allocated to the sector in the 2016 budget was released.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Information, Mr Bisi Agbonhin, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Wednesday.
It quoted Fashola as saying that the Ilorin-Jebba Road was important to the country’s development in view of its significance to economic activities between the northern and southern parts of the country.
He said that road projects across the country would be prioritised beginning with the completion of roads that connect states before the ones that bear the heaviest traffic.
The minister also pledged that the activities of FERMA would be strengthened for optimum performance.
“With the budget proposal, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency will be at advantage to provide comprehensive maintenance of federal roads across the six geopolitical zones in the country.”
He appealed to the judiciary to expedite action on the case concerning the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in order to reduce the carnage and untold hardship commuters suffer as well as the carnage on the road.
The minister restated the government’s readiness to engage local contractors willing to build their capacity and ensure the use of modern equipment for quality delivery.

A good news from government end.How about the abandoned Oyo / Ogbomosho express road?? Govt should please complete this important road as the old road plying at the moment is a death trap for commuters. Pls help inform the minister to pay more attention on this road as well. This project was approved in 2001,spaning between ibadan and ilorin.Ibadan to Oyo and Ogbomosho to ilorin had been completed leaving the only longest and deadliest route, Oyo / Ogbomosho unattend to.
ReplyDeleteLet us all learn to appreciate that which is good and laudable. The express road extension from Ibadan to the North undoubtedly is a well thought of project based on the economic values anticipated from the completion of the road. Leaving a portion of the road uncompleted is uneconomical because of the construction of the road is to bring value to the users of the road. The Minister of Works should please give immediate recommendation for the completion of the road so as to reduce carnage and improve the movement of goods and enhance commercial activities of the area. Mr Fashola is a listening and complete gentleman. He would take action on this important request.
