The extra-ordinary congress that has been fixed for today in Abuja by the Pinnick board could create a new twist in the legal tussle between the Amaju Pinnick-led board of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Chris Giwa-led group with part of the agenda involving issuing a ban on Chris Giwa.
Speculations are rife that top on the agenda of the extra-ordinary congress of the NFF is the expected ban to be slammed on Chris Giwa and his group. A good number of FA chairmen and secretaries have already arrived Abuja for the congress. However, the Giwa group which parades itself as the authentic NFF, remains confident that despite the open support Amaju Pinnick enjoys from FIFA, they cannot hold a congress as the court order also disbanded the congress.
Feelers from the Giwa camp said any such assembly will be viewed by the court as contempt as the Jos federal high court has equally disbanded the congress. One of the top officials informed that Giwa is equally aware that part of the agenda of the congress is to slam a ban on him. Last week, the Giwa group got the court to re-list their case against the NFF leadership, which they had suspended two years ago. They argued they returned to the court after last year’s AGM in Abuja barred other stakeholders.
