CCT adjourns Saraki’s trial until April 27

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has adjourned the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, until April 27 for continuation of cross examination of EFCC witness, Micheal Wetkas.

The adjournment followed a one-week request by Saraki’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), but was opposed by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) and a three-day adjournment was consequently given. Earlier, Wetkas had said during cross examination by Paul Usoro (SAN), that the strength of the position of the investigation team was more on the statement of Saraki’s bank account.

He said the statement showed clear narration of the transaction in respect of the transfer to the America Express Bank, New York. When asked if count 12 is the same as count 11 which also accused Saraki of operating a foreign account, Wetkas answered in the affirmative.

He told the tribunal that the cover letter which the EFCC wrote to GTBank in exhibit 8 covered the issue raised in count 11 and Count 12 of the charge. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, had adjourned hearing into the case until Wednesday, April 27.

  1. In a civilized society, the Senate President would have resigned his position as President to enable a proper investigation concerning the allegations levied against him. His continual presence as President is putting the credibility and integrity of the 8th Senate at serious stake. The earlier he does the right the better for him and his Senate

  2. In a civilized society, the current situation of the Senate President would have necessitated him to resign as President to allow unhindred investigation of the case. I hope that the President will take the path of honour and save the 8th from this embarrassment. The integrity and dignity of the Senate is being questioned by his failing to resign as President

    1. What's your definition of civilization??
Can you relate that with what happened in south africa with her President.
Why has everyone formed the opinion of resignation ? Do we have that constitutionalised? If found guilty of all criminal and fraudulent count charges, will the needful of immediate removal not come to playout in this very scene?
Pls leave the matter to CCT..

  3. In a civilized society too the chairman of CCT would have resign for proper investigation into his alleged corruption case. But that was not the case. He who come to equity must come with clean hands. You can't dispense Justice fairly when you too have corruption case hanging on your neck. He got his supposed clearance from EFCC while still in office, so Senate president should do likewise. In my opinion this CCT chairman is being blackmailed to convict the Senate president by some APC's big wigs.

  4. I wished this rogue and his colleagues realised the havoc they are causing to our development.

As a big thief, Saraki should just leave the Senate and face his criminal life.

And as those big for nothing colleagues that following to the court must know that they names are noted. Comes any other national appointment, they must count themselves out. We are tired of rogues in our society.

  5. Pls keep APC and other political parties out of this and let's face the realities. If we keep supporting evil under the name of religion, ethnicity and political interest, then we r going nowhere.
