Buhari seeking loans because PDP looted treasury – Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has accused the major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, of being responsible for the nation’s economic crisis.

Ngige said it was the alleged looting of the treasury by the PDP that forced President Muhammadu Buhari to seek foreign loans.

He said “This is because the Peoples Democratic Party, for 16 years, looted the nation’s treasury and pauperised Nigerians. The PDP during the oil windfall did not bother to save any kobo for this country. All (the money) they got, they squandered. That is why Nigerians are pauperised this way today.

“Whatever money we borrow today is not going to be used for recurrent expenditure. It is going to be invested in railroads, power, roads, providing infrastructure for agriculture and solid minerals. Won’t you want to see the construction of the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway?”

The minister speaking on Friday at a programme organised by the National Directorate of Employment in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, justified Buhari’s loan requests from foreign governments, saying, “the only option under the circumstance is to look for loans to give Nigerians good governance because Section 14 of our Constitution says the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.”

He promised that the Federal Government, through outlets like the NDE will make jobs available in the country.

“In the next two months, the second phase of this exercise would have been carried out and I want to assure you that over 2, 800 new businesses would have been generated across the country through the ‘Resettlement Scheme’ of the NDE,” Ngige said.

On his own part, the Acting Director General of NDE, Kunle Obayan, said apart from the 30 persons that were empowered during the occasion, 220 other persons previously trained in the state but not empowered were given “lifelines from the Federal Government through the NDE, under the Artisans Resettlement and Mentoring Scheme.”

  1. Ngegi. government is not a profit making organization. Government is spend as you go. yes it is true that lots of money was misappropriated in the past by leaders which include the military and politicians of which Senator Ngegi was part of the thieves. if this government has a plan or model before taking over power, the noise about there is no money would not be. this government told Nigerians that she will run a conservative spending style but that is not the case. there is absolutely no sense in the borrowing of money at this time. what I expect the government to have done, was to present a conservative budget in its first year and work on the so called restructuring and make all the necessary plans to grow the economy and not go round the world borrowing. 95% of the current government is made up of the PDP. the greatest mistake this government did was to paint the last government policies black. now they have discovered that the policies where world class and put us on the part of economic stability, so they are now struggling to adjust to using it but want to poison the minds of Nigerians so that credit will not be given to the previous government. Asking for support/help is not weakness.

  3. Black man will always be what he is , every black man's govt.will always jumping up and down the western world looking for where to borrow money to run the government. How on earth do you start to run the government of your country by first looking for loan from other countries ,this is as a result of lack of economic creative ideas. When will all these western world come to Africa for such aids . Every day our leaders will continue to put us into slavery through the shameful loans collected from people who really love and work conscieciously for their countries. Our President really love Nigeria 'yes' but let us look at the appointments he has made so far . Obasanjo came through Ngozi Okonja Iwuala and cleared the foreign debts and now the first step the new government will take for the so called 'change' is to put foreign debt on our heads . Ngige if this appointment will make you to start reasoning from the anus let the President collect it from you because we respect you so much and moreover you were a member of PDP whom you are accusing for embezzlement.
