Avram Grant Wants Manchester United Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Play for Ghana

Ghana head coach Avram Grant is planning to convince Manchester United starlet Timothy Fosu-Mensah to play for the Ghana senior national team.

According to Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams, Grant will meet with Fosu-Mensah to discuss his international future.

The 18-year-old has played for the Dutch U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-19 teams, but is eligible to play for the Black Stars through his father.

Born in Amsterdam, Fosu-Mensah started his footballing career with Ajax before eventually moving to England in 2014.

Having impressed for the Red Devils at youth level in various playing positions - including defensive midfielder - he made his first team debut for the club in a 3-2 win over Arsenal in February.

Fosu-Mensah has featured a further five times for the Barclays Premier League giants and impressed in a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur this past weekend.

Louis van Gaal started Fosu-Mensah at right-back against Spurs, but was forced from the pitch on 68 minutes. The Manchester club conceded two minutes after his withdrawal, Dele Alli with the opener - Toby Alderweireld and Erik Lamela added a second and third.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher heaped praise on Fosu-Mensah in the aftermath: "I think it’s no coincidence that as Fosu-Mensah went off, the game finished."
