Alleged N400m fraud: I am on trial for criticising APC, Metuh tells court

The embattled National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged N400million fraud, Wednesday, insisted that his trial was politically motivated.

Metuh, through a witness he produced before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Mr. Ike Abonyi, said his ordeal was a function of constructive criticisms he mounted on the All progressive Congress-led government, after PDP lost the 2015 presidential election. Abonyi, who is a media consultant to the PDP, told the court that Metuh pre-empted his arrest, detention and subsequent arraignment.

He said that the defendant who is answering to a seven-count charge, had expressed his fears during a press conference he held before he was summoned by the EFCC. The witness told the court that at a point, the defendant, owing to pressure from his family members, considered quitting his position as the the spokesman of the PDP.

  1. Nonsense. Is this an issue for public consumption? Obu onye mere ihe ka egwu na atu. Oga Olisa, please answer to the charges and leave victimization. Did you receive that money or not? If you received the fund from the former NSA, tell them and also tell them the purpose of the fund. If you did not, tell them you did not. Please leave out victimization here. You guys killed this country. See the way funds belonging to a whole country is shared among very few persons. For what?

    1. God bless you for this unbiased comment even though it's obvious you're of the same tribe.

    3. Discriminated and unbiased comment. Let us leave politic or ethnic out of our comment and nail issues straight on the head.
He should say the purpose of the money received by him as claimed and admitted were for from the NSA account

    5. Anonymous 12:22am. That's a good comment. Please let us all try to be objective here. It is beyond ethnic or tribal thing. Truth is that all tribes joined hands to rape this country to death. I think the first writer was just trying to be fair. It pained him so much. It's not about tribe or religion. We all must join hands to make this fight against corruption and looting of public funds work. Thank you all. God Bless Nigeria

  2. Olisa so that is your defence, am sorry for you. You a very stupid man by saying that, you can't put up your defence. Tell the court what happened and what you know about the money, you are a lawyer for christ sake, you know better. There's no sentiments in the court of law, and sentiments can never be a defence. Did you practice law at all.We know that, that is exactly what you will say when you started that your criticism about APC, prior to your arrest. You want Nigerians to believe that you were being victimise. Now that you are on bail why do stop opposing APC, did your family or APC ask you to stop. Every one of you is saying his trial is politically motivated,"before nko" its because you all are political thieves. If you are a political thief, Government will also politically motivate your trial bear that in mind. You better defend yourself in the court stop that rubbish you're saying,"akwa ina anu".

Ever since I have been reading comments on nigerianeye, this is the first time everybody is speaking with one voice against corrupt politicians who use ethno-religious sentiments to divide and rule us. May God bless everyone who has commented and may God bless our nation and deliver her from the hands of corrupt individuals and cabals who plunder our commonwealth and keep millions of Nigerians in penury. Nigeria will be great again
