The clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after the visit of the National Chairman of PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to Jigawa State recently, has left one person dead and five injured.
It was learnt that the deceased, one Samaila Isiyaku, a native of Zai quarters in Dutse metropolitan was allegedly killed by thugs of the opposition party in the state.
An eyewitness revealed that the deceased and others were seen displaying the poster of the state governor, Muhammad Abubakar Badaru, chanting ‘Ba ma yi,’ Action! Action! Their conduct, it was reported, did not go down well with the opposition party, who alleged that they were paid by the government, “before we knew what was happening there was confrontation between both parties.” The eyewitness added that the aftermath of the confrontation was the death of Samaila Isiyaku and the injuries sustained by others.
The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdul Jinjiri, confirmed that PDP supporters attacked and killed one Samaila Isiyaku, 22 years, of Zai quarters. Abdul Jinjiri also disclosed that the “five others injured are currently receiving treatment at Rasheed Shekoni hospital.”
He added that the command has arrested one suspect, Bashir Yusif, who confessed that he was among the sponsored thugs. But in a swift reaction, the Special Assistant Media and Publicity to Jigawa State Governor, Bello Zaki, called on the authority concerned to as a matter of urgency fish out the culprits.
