A Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye, mocked the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday, while contributing to a motion seeking the need to patronise products made in Nigeria.
Melaye, who is from Kogi-West senatorial district, while contributing to the motion by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, which advocated the need to patronise products made in Nigeria, took a swipe at Oshiomhole, saying Nigerians should not emulate the governor whom he said opted not to “patronise ‘Made-in-Nigeria women’ but a foreign one”.

Melaye was referring to Iara, the wife of Oshiomhole, whom he married from Cape Verde in the Southern African region.
He, therefore, advised Nigerians not to only patronise goods made in Nigeria, but also made-in-Nigeria women.
He said, “I want to celebrate the ‘Made-in-Nigeria senator’ for bringing up this motion. In considering goods produced in Nigeria, we must look at the enabling factors that will necessitate the goods.
“It is beyond having one made in Nigeria attire and having over 70 designers’ attires in your wardrobe. We must reduce the allocation for made-in-Nigeria goods and services to the basics.
“What are those factors limiting the production of these goods? We must tackle them. We must also begin to look at our legislation, then we will begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria goods.
“We will also move in order to encourage made-in-Nigeria products and begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria women.
“Apologies to my uncle, the Governor of Edo State, we must as a people stop paying dowries in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

The more I listen to Melaye, the more obvious it becomes that this man is clearly stupid. A woman is not a product, and to so imply is a demonstration of a fouled up mind that needs some enlightening. Melaye may have a university degree, but his mind is very uneducated.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. The author of the article too goofed by referring to Cape Verde as Southern Africa. Cape Verde is am island off West Africa's coast. People should research a bit before publishing. As for Dino and his likes....well another election will soon be here.
DeleteMelaye, I still saw pulp pictures of the face of your former partner on bing, no wonder you were beating up your former partner at any slightest misunderstanding until she ran away because they are cheap in here to get.... let Oshiomhole be, he did not get married for the of it as you normally do, he got married because he lost his wife, and wanted someone to console him...
ReplyDeleteThat was purely senseless... I wonder why the house leader didnt oder him to sit his black uneducated ass the fuck down.
ReplyDeleteI pity Melaye. Is Oshiomohole the first Nigerian to get married to a Non-nigerian? Melaye is behaving like a child and should be treated like one. I agree with the first respondant, Melaye may be educated but his mind is very uneducated. God bless all our faithful leaders.
ReplyDeleteThis clearly shows we have unserous people at the helm of affairs in this country. The likes of Dinosaur melaye have all been for stomach infrastructure. Nothing serious can come out from the mouth of a wife beater. What do we produce in Nigeria? Rogues like Dino . Miscreant.
ReplyDeleteIt is rather unfortunate that a statement like this could be credited to a Senator of a Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is crystal clear that Melaye is child whose common sense is not functioning. He whose brain is given, common sense is required.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants the governors wife fine . He should appraoch him in a polite manner so that he will help him get a replica of his Beautiful wife. Atleast she will have a sisters ,cousins and friends . This is the height of Jealousy
ReplyDeleteDino Melaye is as stupid as the Nigerians that elected him, simple! The guy has been a fool and an irresponsible loud mouth all along,so for the electorates not to have realised this until he was voted in,says a lot about them.Shame, now you must live with the monster you created
ReplyDeleteThis is foolishness of a talk. When has marriage become a tribal issue. Senseless man. Is that how to move the Nation forward?
ReplyDeleteYou guys should leave Melaye alone; he has no shame and the best thing you can do to a shameless fellow is to let him/her be.
ReplyDeleteI pity the poor senator, where were you when the Senate imported some choice exotic cars recently? And why did you not decline your own share and opt for a made in Nigeria car. And please Mr. Senator check your dictionary for the meaning of dowry. Using the word bride price should have been more appropriate. So Mr. Senator, you goofed.
ReplyDeleteDino well done for telling the truth. Oshiomhole led the campaign to force Former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo Iweala to share the excess crude money from the sovereign fund only to use it to go and marry in Cape Verde. Edo and Nigeria's loss is cape Verde gain. That is where Oshiomohole invested his dividend of democracy. No wonder he was hauling abuse on Okonjo Iweala because he saw her as one that almost truncated his plans to go and invest in the marriage by her refusal to release the money. She eventually was forced to release the money courtesy of a court action by Oshiomohole and his cohort governors and all of them squandered the money. Oshio then had the temerity and rashness of character to accuse Madam of not saving for rainy day. It is a pity. Oshio is a disappointment and shame to Edo people and to Nigeria. Distinguished Melaye you are on point and continue to tell them the truth
ReplyDeleteAll the above commentators against Dino are dick heads, since they all don't know the implication of a gov marrying a foreigner, and to encourage patronage of our local products. we must start from somewhere.
ReplyDeleteDock heads heh? And you are worse than a dock head for thinking women who are living human beings are products that are purchased. This your kind of reasoning is why the nation isn't progressive. Women are humans and not products. Period!
DeleteCape Verde is not in the Southern African region, Cape verde is one of the 15 countries in ECOWAS Sub-region. Please be informed
ReplyDeleteThese are the kind of law makers we voted in. God help our nation.
ReplyDeleteIt is unfortunate for this kind of statement by a public stateman, comparing women to product
ReplyDeleteWhy can't my comment appear, Haven't you reviewed it?
ReplyDeleteDino may give a jibe to Oshio Baba. I know Oshio can defend himself. I wonder why the fool does not recommend make in Nigeria SUVs for the reckless senators
ReplyDeleteThe level of ignorance and stupidity in our National Assembly is confounding.
ReplyDeleteEverybody has d right to marry whoever they wiant..its nobodys business...dino u are out of track..
ReplyDeleteEverybody has d right to marry whoever they wiant..its nobodys business...dino u are out of track..
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to read all these comments against Melaye's statement. Certainly these cannot be coming from mainly Nigerians, but foreigners who are gaining from Nigeria. The man is correct in the point he is trying to make. If we don't patronize our own products and women but glamorize everything foreign, we won't stand a chance nationally and culturally in the future. When will Nigerians focus on the future of this country and stop being so short-sighted in national, cultural, and personal decisions. Yes, everyone has the choice to marry whosoever they want. And not every decision is wise, but may God help us choose for right reasons. Our leaders are models to the nation and their actions speak. Even now there is an epidemic of foreign. The people bashing Melaye can't say they don't know what he's talking about. The good thing about his point is that he suggested we seek concrete solutions, including legislative, to the problems that are hindering Nigerian-made products from being well accepted. And in the case of women, it won't be a bad idea to investigate the root causes of the problem and seek solutions.
ReplyDeleteYour comment is nice but flawed by your reference on foreign products. Women are human beings not products. They are not imported they migrate and nationalise by marriage. Pls be guided
DeleteThe point is to patronize Nigerian-made, be it products or women, or even men. The people criticizing him are derailing from his point - he did not refer to her as product, and any objective mind will see his point is to patronize Nigerian-made, so we don't remain importers/consumers in everything forever while producing barely anything. Ours should be in demand also. And let's learn to plan this country long-term to self-sustain future Nigerians. Let me tell you other nations already plan what they want your country to be like in 20 years, 50 years...and it's hardly in the Nigerian people's favor. We have too much talent. Whatever sector we work in, whatever you create or do, do it with pride - let your products and services be done with excellence and it will certainly gain recognition and be in demand.
DeleteForget about grammar concerning wether women are product or not.The sence he is trying to pass across is what is important. The key is that Nigerians should patronise anything in Nigeria. This the best way to develop ourselves. For instance, hardly can u see even an ordinary Indian man to have done what Oshiomole has done.Don't we have beautiful, wealty andresponsible woman in the whole of Nigeria?
