Nigeria’s Minister of Power Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, says there is currently not enough power to distribute unless more turbines are switched on.
He attributed recent power outages in some parts of the country to four turbines which stopped working, but hoped electricity supply would be stabilized soon as three of the four turbines have been restored.
“Yesterday morning we had some outages in Jebba but I am happy to report now that all the four turbines that were down, three have been restored, so there is stability now.
“It is important why the power coming from Aba is defining, its part of what I’ve spoken about. There is not enough power in the country.
“So how do you share what is not enough such that everybody gets enough? Its difficult, if not impossible.
“So what we need to do is to get more power on. So about 200 megawatts coming from there is good news for the market,” he said.
The Minister also expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari’s 10,000 megawatts target would be met.
He, however, decried acts of vandalism which he says is causing some of the energy problems in the country.
“Everyone of us must contribute something now to solve the problem; it a problem we can solve. That will reduce the number of people who are contributing to being the problem.
“So those who are vandalizing electricity assets, those who are selling stolen cable, those who are not paying their bills and those diverting electricity are all problems.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

What a shame, you were always busy to run your mouth, now that you have the job you can't even do it.
ReplyDeleteIt is a fool that can write this. The man is telling us the problem he is contending with, why the insult ?
DeleteDid he care to listen to the problems others were contending with when they were there? Joor na power Nigerians need not story. Give us power first and tell us story later. O to!
DeleteI have now lived in Nigeria for 15 years.. and this is the worst electricity i have experienced in Ikeja GRA.. Less than 2 hours power per day.. this kills a lot of small businesses and also make the private life like hell. No Fuel No Power. No idea where this country is going... But it doesn't look bright..
ReplyDeleteHonestly, this change has short - changed Nigerians. Ci kena!
DeleteMr. minister i want to autoritatively tell you that NCC( national Control center) is not telling you the truth of the power situation in Aloaji and cipp calaba. Many a time alaoji power station in Aba will be on 120Mwatts or 110Mwatts because CIPP calaba want to come up, NCC will ask Alaoji to reduce the power output to 40 or 60Mwatts. the reason given will be because they do not want to overload the transmission line. if they do not ask Alaoji to reduce power produce, they will ask AIPP ikot abasi to reduces theirs. The problem is not production, 70% of the problem is that there is no enough transmission line to evacuate the power produced to the National Grid.. current as of the time of typing this massage, Alaoji power station is down. with adequate transmission line to nation grid, NCC will confortably evacuate Alaoji and CIPP power generation at the same time without asking one to reduce power to allow another mostly CIPP calaba to evacuate.
ReplyDeleteNCC should tell you the truth and stop laying blame on pipeline and low gas. pipeline vanders knows the different between crude pipe line and gas line as such they avoid gas pipe line.
See them saying excuses now they are in office and chopping. Why are we so wicked to each other?
ReplyDeleteThree major Ministries under the control of a single person. I can't stop laughing at this administration...Only God knows what could have driven Buhari to make such a grave mistake...How can the man achieve effectiveness and efficiency so easily??? I pray that this regime will not eventually turn to be the worst in the history of this Nation. Well,as events are unfolding...
ReplyDeleteHow long ve they been in the office u re comparing them with pdp sixteen yrs misrule, u re not fair to them
ReplyDeleteThey are not being fair to them, why can't they stablize what they met in ground? If they can not add to it,Nigeria is a complex country to manage, its evident to them now that it is not easy as they thought, trade blame game is over!No light, no fuel, what is the hope of common man?
DeleteStop being bias, I think u are from d north and also an APC. Think more of Nigerian than being sentimental. Never in history of Nigeria have we ever face such suffering within a limited space of time as this before. Only God can deliver us from this mess.
DeleteI wu nnama
DeleteThis is not economic drama that can be conveniently blamed on others to hide inactivity and incompetence. This is truly one-chance. May 2015 (~6000MW), a year later (between 0 and 1500). Please what has misrule of the previous admin got to do with decline in power under this govt and this unprecedented fuel shortage. Is GEJ managing power stations now? Is Deziani brokering our fuel deals? Enough stories and excuses please. It is time for results and what we're seeing is worse than nothing.
DeleteThis man is a fool, Same as the party called APC. I thought the body language of d President use to generate electricity. Abi d body don forget how to speak d language?
ReplyDeleteU better blame it on d body language of d president o. Ten months ago, it was d body language that made things improve. So, if things are bad now, it's d body language that's making things bad, period.
ReplyDeleteKai Aboki keep quiete, is APC not an extension of PDP? These pple made promises which they av failed to keep and kng them questions you are coming here to wipe sentiments. Did we not have better light supplies under PDP than we have now? Is it PDP that made the wattage fall to what it is now? Fashola was vocal against d immediate past oelectricity supplies but has worsened it since he took over. Pls rest joor
ReplyDeleteMinister of power give us power all that one na story for the gods
ReplyDeleteFashola eat your words now. You join the half educated APC members such as el rufail, oshiomole, lai Moh'd , ameachi and co to make governance irrelevant during Jonathan. You think is easy to execute government? No excuse please just do the magic as you people promised.
ReplyDeleteShame! Fashola thought lighting Nigeria is the same as planting flowers in Lagos. He thought the national electricity problem can be solved by installing diesel-powered generators that he used for Lagos street lights. Shame!!!
ReplyDeleteDis Garba Ibrahim is a cow! So all d comment made here is not reasonable enough 4 U 2 see d truth? We have long left political and ethnic sentiments 2 face d truth! Acknowledge d truth, the d ONLY sure way to Freedom!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a waste of time! GEJ did not do anything, so what is BRUHAHARI doing now? all we are saying... give us dat change!
ReplyDeleteI say it again - This is not economic issues that can be craftily blamed on others to hide inactivity and incompetence. This is truly one-chance. May 2015 (about 6000MW and rising), a year later (1500MW and falling). Please what has misrule of the previous admin got to do with decline in power under this govt and this unprecedented fuel shortage. You have left what you met on ground to fall apart whilst roaming all over the place always with a bunch of equally clueless governors and other pointless entourage, eating up many millions of naira per hour. And you want us to chop stories and excuses? Where are the results pls? What we're seeing here is worse than nothing. We need a revolution.
ReplyDeleteThe blind and clueless like APC will keep hulling blames on PDP. But let's be sincere to ourselves, assuming PDP is still in office, do you think Nigeria would have degenerated to this level within a shortwhile?
ReplyDeletePlease let stop blaming PDP for the inefficiency of APC. The fact remains that APC as a party has no defined plan addressing the problems of Nigerian.
