John Mikel Obi, in his first game as full-time captain of Nigeria, was denied an important victory in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers by a late Mohamed Salah goal.
Etebo Oghenekaro, a 20-year-old striker who still plies his trade in his homeland, scored the opening goal an hour into the game against Egypt when he latched onto a rebound off the woodwork, but the Super Eagles missed the chance to exchange top spot in the four-team qualification group with their opponents when Salah netted in stoppage time.
Victor Moses came on for the final 20 minutes and missed a glorious chance to seal a Super Eagles victory after a delightful pass from Okocha's nephew, Alex Iwobi.
After three games played, Egypt have a two-point lead over Nigeria and the two teams meet again, this time in Egypt, in four days’ time.
