Okubor raises alarm after Nigerian soldiers dressed in Scottish attire welcome President Buhari at airport

Former Chief of Staff to the governor of Delta State, Dr. Festus Okubor, has raised alarm over the importation of foreign culture in presidential protocol, describing the development as a slap on the country’s cultural heritage.

Okubor expressed outrage that President Muhammadu Buhari on his return from his recent trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar was welcomed by soldiers garbed in Scottish attire.

Affirming laxity on the part of the presidential minders, Okubor said that it was a disgrace to use soldiers dressed in the attire of the nation’s colonial powers to welcome the president of Nigeria back to his country.

Asserting Nigeria’s rich culture from Kano, Borno to Benin, Okubor said: “I really feel that there are people bent on embarrassing the president and the people of Nigeria after watching that clip of the president being welcomed by soldiers dressed in Scottish attire.”

“For our president to be welcomed by a foreign culture is an insult when we have our own resplendent cultural outfits. Whoever did that does not love Nigeria,” Okubor said.

  3. Why does he have so many people to welcome him back? Apart from the Scottish crew, see the battalions of soldiers standing by.

  4. What difference? You use foreign guns, wear foreign boots, conduct war with foreign tanks, etc. It is now the attire that captures your attention.

  12. Somebody asked, what's tge big deal, the big deal is beginning of our culture. You will never see Asian countries or middleast compromise in this kind of things. But with Nigeria it shows the nation lack stable mind and focus on everything.

  15. I wonder how Nigerians open their eyes yet they cannot see. Some of the so called soldiers are whites and looking at the black they don't appear to me as Nigeria. Is that Abuja Airport? People just post comments without bordering to do a primary check.
Otubor is the welcome parade done by Biafran soldiers at Otuoke Airport?
In politics anything goes and to uncritical public the more you look the less you see. If Buhari did not do that as a military head of state haba how come in a democracy?

  18. This news item is misleading. Close scrutiny of these pictures showed nothing next to Nigerian soldiers playing bag pipes. It's either the reporter or the online news agency is playing pranks with Nigerians creating disaffection among the citizens. Take a good look at the pictures, zoom them and you'll discover that the pictures were taken in a foreign land, probably Qatar, because the bag pipe playing soldiers were not Nigerian soldiers.

  19. The british Prime Minister should be welcomed back at Heathrow with soldiers dressed in brocade and beating the UDU after his visits the middle east.

and those saying this is not nigeria, what will the IG be doing behind the president in another country?
