A late goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic ensured Newcastle United shared a point with Sunderland at St James' Park in Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby as the two battled to a 1-1 draw.
Jermain Defoe opened the scoring shortly before half time when Fabio Borini's shot from a short corner was parried by Rob Elliot, into his feet, enabling him to crash an effort low into the net.
Mitrovic then powered home a header late on following Georginio Wijnaldum's right-wing cross, ensuring the Black Cats were denied a seventh successive win over the Magpies.
