After three years of communal clashes that engulfed Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, Governor Tanko Al-Makura on Wednesday confirmed the death of the spiritual head of Eggon nationality, Baba Alakyo.
Alakyo headed the Ombatse cult, allegedly responsible for the death of scores of policemen in the Alakyo village area of Lafia East Development Area of the state on May 7, 2013.
Al-Makura said this at the Government House, Lafia, during the donation of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons from 30 communities affected by the recent communal clashes.
The governor expressed regret that the state had continued to experience a series of communal clashes and security challenges since 2011.
“Sadly, we are recently greeted with yet a recurrence of the crisis between Fulani herdsmen and Agatu farmers in Udeni Magaji District in Udege Development Area and most recently in Oguba area of Loko Development Area,” he said.
According to him, government is determined to rehabilitate the people affected by the clashes to give them hope and confidence, warning that government would deal ruthlessly with any group that foment crisis in the state.

ReplyDeleteAre you a fulani?
DeletePls if you can tell me how government is going to deal with the issue of Fulani herdsmen and their victims Mr Governor Tanko al-makura. I am surprised when Governor Utom of Benue state openly came out to say the issue of fulani herdsmen is beyond their control, the person that swore an oath to protect the citizens?
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned they federal government has failed to protect the citizens, supposing Agatu is a crude oil pipelines the whole phalanx of Nigerian Army will shift their headquarters to Agatu, Nigeria Go Survive
