La’Porsha immediately broke down in tears after her performance on ‘American Idol,’ which followed a pretape revealing her abusive past relationship.
JLo immediately started crying after an intro package of her explaining her abusive relationship that ended right before the show.
“It takes a lot of strength to overcome those things in your life, baby,” JLo told La’Porsha afterwards, with tears in her eyes. “I know. Everybody knows. We’ve all been through stuff like that. You know what I mean? Honestly, you’re an inspiration. It was so beautiful. You put it in your music. You don’t over do it. It was powerful. Thank you for that moment.”
After the performance, La’Porsha spoke to People about why she chose to share such a hard time. “It was something that needed to happen,” she said. “I got out of that bad relationship in April and came straight into American Idol so I didn’t have time to heal. Having America pick this song for me forced me to face the feelings I had been running from. That’s why I got so emotional.”
