JAMB Used Wrong Software To Mark 2016 Examination - ATSO

The Association of Tutorial School Operators (ATSO) has accused the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of using the wrong grading software to mark the 2016/2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The group claimed that the error was responsible for the poor and conflicting results that were released by the board for the examination written between February 27 and March 17 in over 500 centres nationwide.

At a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, President of the group, Mr Shodunke Oludotun, alleged that the board erroneously used the software from last year to grade this year’s examination.

He called for the release of the right results, as well as the resignation of the JAMB Registrar, Prof ‘Dibu Ojerinde.

Oludotun said: “We have our evidence to show that virtually all the candidates have collected results of 2015/2016 and not of 2016/2017".

“From our findings from insiders in JAMB, we realized that the software of 2015/2016 interfered with the 2016/2017, which led to the massive failure of the students. If you can see the trend of results from (February) 27 to 29, the students failed; (March) 7-15, the students failed massively", he said.

    1. It has no logical foundation to you because it is beyond your scope of intellectual compression. Most Nigerians are of the opinion that there is something behind the mass failure in the last JAMB. Authorities of Govt. Should investigate this.

  3. From over 6years experience in setting up computer labs and also considering the lack of quality control in Nigeria, I will like to point out some of the reasons this year's JAMB was not satisfactory:

    1) Some of the old centres earlier certified by JAMB were not revisited nor screened to make sure they are still fit for the exam
    2) Majority of the new centres didn't meet JAMB standard, but got accreditation from "backdoors"
    3) Some of the centres had threat (virus), switch/router (network infrastructural), and system compatibility issues
    4) Many, though computer literate, didn't practice with the JAMB practice software. There are reasons for that software and why its being sold. You need to practice with it as to do better, because instructions are subject to amendment including its technology. People need to go to CBT centres where the software is installed and practice with it
    5) Many got it wrong by ask their colleagues for answers. The questions are generated at random and even if the questions appears the same, the options too don't come the same (They are always reshuffled)
    6) The issues surrounding power supply in the country contributed maximally as well.

I wish JAMB will be prudent in approving centres. And if possible, all the centres should be revisited for inspection, this will help to ascertain if those centres were actually qualified. So that those behind this mass cry can be dealt with. We can't continue to make others cry for sake of selfish interest.

If JAMB will stick to standard, CBT is better than pencil and paper method. I will also advice lab owners to switch to the use of Thin Client computers because it is 70% cheaper than the use of regular desktop computers or even laptops. It is easy to install and manage. It consumes about 10watts of voltage as against the regular desktop computers that consumes 220-240watts. No virus infection, and has no mechanical moving device that is liable to crashing.
