The Peoples Democratic Party and National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali Modu Sheriff, on Thursday revealed how he emerged for the party’s position.
He said Governor Ayodele Fayose and “other Nigerians” worked for his emergence to rebuild the party and return it to its winning ways.
Sheriff spoke during his state visit to Ekiti PDP secretariat in company with Fayose where he met leaders and members of the party.
”Let me thank Governor Fayose for his efforts to keep our party on ground in Ekiti. It is God that makes a leader and that was why God commanded in Holy bible and Qur’an that He should be allowed to choose a leader for the people.
“I never planned to be PDP Chairman but God used people like Fayose and other Nigerians to make me PDP chairman. I was sleeping in my room when Governor Fayose called me from Port Harcourt and said am going to be the new National Chairman. That to me, was a miracle.
“With what I witnessed yesterday, it was obvious that God chose Fayose for Ekiti people because of his popularity among them. He was taken to the prison and eight years after, he came back. People won’t be happy with the governor if he has not been fair to them.”
Fayose during the visit accused President Muhammadu Buhari of superintending over a super-corrupt government, while witch-hunting political opponents.
“I’m Buhari’s diabetic and blood pressure pills. He has to take me before going to bed. We are a country promised 10m jobs, but it has turned out to be 10m job lost. They are increasing electricity tariff, putting PDP members in handcuffs while Boko Haram suspects are walking free. It is only a sectional leader that does this.
“Buhari accused PDP of corruption, but today he is superintending over a super corrupt government. They are stealing more than what they are telling us. This change is one chance. Nigerians want change not chain.
“We don’t want anybody to take away our right. I told Nigerians not to vote Buhari. If he contests 100 times, I will tell Nigerians not to vote for him. I will be an apostle of truth and will continue to talk. Many that used to talk when Jonathan was there are now afraid to talk.”
Fayose said he supported Sheriff to be PDP chairman because he had the capacity to rebuild the party.
“We know you have the capacity to restore the PDP and make it survive. You have the means and experience and we promise that we will always stand by you.”
