Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has explained that Fulani herdsmen are not the ones responsible for the incessant attacks in Nigeria.
He blamed the attacks on herdsmen from Mali, Ghana, Congo and Niger and appealed to the Federal Government to tighten security at borders into the state.
He explained that the foreign herdsmen have been behind the incessant attacks on his people since 2011.
The governor said, “unless they are chased out, it would be hard to maintain peace in the country. “These herdsmen are very destructive and well-armed. They kill women and children on sight.
“They are completely different from the Fulani’s that we have lived and cohabited with over the years.
“We understand that the herdsmen came from Mali, Ghana, Congo, Niger among others and are killing us every day with impunity. This must stop.
“As we speak, over eight Local Governments have been affected across the state. The situation is really overwhelming,” said the governor.
The governor said that there was no land for grazing in the state, explaining that all lands belong to farmers in the state.
He said that 85 per cent of the state population were farmers and occupied the little available land, adding that it would be difficult to create a grazing reserve in the state.
He suggested that the herdsmen should rather embrace ranches as it was being practiced in developed countries. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Why would they come all that way to kill? Are they being paid to do it? This statement in incomplete and reflects incompetent leadership.
ReplyDeleteMr. Governor, so who invited them you or the filani heldsmen the you claim are innocent. You are fearing the president abi. Your people are suffering and you are bending words. God will judge you.
ReplyDeletehe is right!!!! those that does not know how a farmland looks like should knows that these beast could grace their animals from Nigerian to Ghana in less than a week, they don't have a destination and are not restricted in any way, they go passed borders, passed rivers and see every growing crop in a land as a feed for their cattle, you cannot align them to a particular country, they are every where in a split second and can also disappear after causing a lot of damage to farmland... they cannot be tied to any community, they speak Arabic and few of them speak Hausa but with a far raw and very different from the conventional Hausa. Most of them flow from the northern part of Cameroon called Gaundree (SIC) all they feel is that they own all grazing land in sub-Saharan African, if you these once speak French and Arabic, they work with series of daggers and knives and this days carry weapons with them, they are very fortified with charms and most people belief they have disappearing powers in terms of great dangers, they are very dangerous but very honest, their women go along with them most times and even give birth to children on the bushes and largely sells cow milk referred to as NUNU to any local community they settle in while their husbands go grassing so Mr. Governor is 100% right
ReplyDeleteThis man is adding politics to this matter. Is he afraid to speak the truth? If you don't know the source of your problem you can never solve it. Oya chase them from Nigeria na if you think they are from Mali, Ghana as you claim to see if fulanis in Nigeria will allow you to chase them. What they want you to believe is what you are helping them to say publicly now. Shame!
ReplyDeleteThis man is more interested on political correctness than in finding real solution to the daily massacre e of his people. It is sad. Is anybody surprised. It shows the kind of leadership by apc.very clueless and incompetent. Evasive and lacking the proper judgement due to sentiment and political consideration.
ReplyDeleteSycophants in the mist. This statement is just to tell Abuja that he is still despite the killing of his people. The statement is otherwise totally meaningless.
ReplyDeleteFoolish Governor. Before now we heard dsame story concerning boko haram until they later turned Nigerians.
ReplyDeleteTell the truth and let the devil be ashamed
ReplyDeleteAnother Fulani slave coming to prove his slave status to his masters just like Amaechi in Rivers. This slave is now the spokesperson for the murderous militia herdsmen who is ready to lick their ass while they continue killing his people. Who were the people who admitted to the whole world that they murdered Agatu people because they killed 10,000 cows first? Are those ones from Ghana, Mali? Who are the people having meetings with the ethnic farmers in Benue and giving conditions for peace? Who has been organizing a novelty match to settle disputes between the ethnic farmers and the marauders? Are they Fulani from Niger as well? Are the Miyetti Allah Cattlemen who have been representing the murderers not Nigerians too? The Benue people must come together and disgrace this Uncle Tom like the Rivers people did to the treacherous one recently.
ReplyDeleteQuiet unfortunate! After a fulani said in broad day that the Agatu massacre was a retaliation to a Fulani man killed in Agatu years ago? After these herdsmen have claimed they fired back after the people of Agatu killed their cattle? I sympathize with the people of Agatuland. This is what you get when a motor park tout becomes governor
ReplyDeleteNo one has a monopoly on violence.I sympathize with the victims family, but they need to start arming themselves as well I take it to them.It is very easy to go the dialoque route and that is always the best options, but this people have proven over and over again that they ar blood thirsty and violent. The farmers should arm themselves or create a sort of vigilante groups to combat their excesses.Th farmers have the advantage in numbers because it is their community and d fulani heldsman will be limited in numbers and places to hide in an unfamiliar territory.
