FAAN strengthens security in Nigerian airports following Brussels airport attack


Following Tuesdays attack on Brussels airport, the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has beefed up security in and around all the airports in the country.

On Tuesday, Two blasts tore through the departures area of Zaventem airport shortly after 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT .


More than 30 people are believed to have been killed and dozens injured in the attacks at Brussels international airport and a city metro station.

Another explosion struck Maelbeek metro station near EU headquarters an hour later, leaving about 20 people dead. Brussels police have issued a wanted notice for a man seen pushing a luggage trolley through the airport.

He was pictured in CCTV footage with two other suspects who are believed to have died in the blasts.

 The Islamic State (IS) group said it was behind the attacks in a statement issued on the IS-linked Amaq agency.

Speaking with aviation correspondents yesterday in Lagos on steps taken to avoid the Brussels incident in the country, the General Manager, Public Affairs, FAAN, Mr Yakubu Dati, said sniffer dogs have been deployed to airports in conjunction with the Nigerian police.

Dati said “ the Authority will not leave any stone unturned to ensure maximum security at the airport especially with the Easter celebrations around the corner.”

 He also expressed shock over the dastardly act carried out at the Brussels airport warning those without business at the airport not to constitute nuisance stressing that a special task force from the Independent Corrupt Practices were on ground to apprehend touts.

He added that all the body scanners and Close Circuit Television gadgets were operational beaming activities of all at the airport and advised passengers to arrive the airport on time to do their normal check in procedures in order not to miss their flights. Dati urged all air passengers not to leave any luggage behind as such item will be taken away and destroyed.

  1. strengthen security? like there was any form of security there in the first place and have the security men attached to the airport finish begging for dollars oh pls tell me sth else....we just continue to pray that this nation doesnt see evil coz frankly yall doing nothing
