David Beckham told to 'calm down' by Chelsea vice president during Paris Saint-Germain victory

David Beckham reportedly came in for criticism from Chelsea’s Joe Hemani, a vice-president, for celebrating Adrien Rabiot’s goal during Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Hemani, a computer entrepreneur who has been at the West London club for 31 years, took offence when Beckham and his son Brooklyn applauded the opening goal of a dramatic round-of-16 tie which saw the Blues eliminated from the competition.

Former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham ended his career with PSG, making ten appearances for the Parisians under Carlo Ancelotti in 2013.

The Times report that Hemani denies using offensive language towards the Beckhams and insists that he merely asked the 40-year-old to calm down.

Diego Costa momentarily gave Chelsea hope in the 27th minute but Zlatan Ibrahimović’s second-half strike handed Paris a second knock-out victory over Chelsea in two years.

The runaway Ligue 1 leaders eventually won the tie 2-4 on aggregate and progress to the quarter-finals while the Blues’ hopes of even qualifying for next season’s group stage draw appear to have been extinguished.

Beckham, who is continuing efforts to establish his Miami franchise in Major League Soccer, visited the Paris team hotel before the match to wish his former team-mates luck.

Marco Verratti posted a picture from the Bentley Hotel in Kensington with the caption, translated from French: “It's always good to see you @davidbeckham.”

In his final match for Paris, a 3-1 success against Brest, Beckham was filmed leaving the Parc des Princes pitch in tears and regularly checks in to watch matches in the French capital.
