Collapsed Lekki building: Court grants Lekki Gardens MD, contractor 10 Million bail

The Managing Director of Lekki Gardens Homes, Mr. Richard Nyong, was yesterday granted a bail on self recognizance, by an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Oyingbo over the collapse of a five-storey building which left 35 people dead in the Lekki area of the state.

Nyong was admitted to bail on self recognizance alongside one of the company’s contractors, Mr. Taiwo Odofin, who was granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

The Magistrate Mrs. Afolashade Botuku, granted the submissions of counsels to the first and second defendants, Mr. Femi Wangboje and Mr. Olabode Olanipekun, who both urged the court to either admit their clients on bail in liberal terms, or make an order directing the defendants to be reporting to the police during work hours.

While upholding Olanipekun’s submission, Magistrate Botoku stated that “The court has not been told by the prosecution on how far the investigation has gone, and in his application for bail, counsel to the second defendant submitted that the applicant had never been convicted before of any offence.”

“He said that the applicant was an employer of labour with over 8,000 employees, and he is law-abiding and would not interfere with the investigation. These submissions were not objected by the prosecution, I therefore find merit in the application.” Botuku said

“I hereby grant the first defendant bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must be of good behaviour and be tax payers. “The second defendant was granted bail on self recognition.

  1. What about TB Joshua? Let him experience jail too. He should stop jumping court processes.
