Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi is the new captain of the senior national team after Ahmed Musa relinquished his position as skipper at a press briefing in Kaduna Thursday.
Ahmed Musa, who was named Eagles skipper following the retirement of Vincent Enyeama from international football by former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh instead of Mikel who was the vice-captian, said the decision was taken to “right the wrong” previously done.
Mikel will therefore lead Nigeria in tomorrow's must-win AFCON qualifier against Egypt in Kaduna.
Mikel made his debut for the Eagles in 2005, while CSKA Moscow winger Ahmed Musa made his Nigeria bow five years later.
