The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming rerun election in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, said on Saturday that the Governor Nyesom Wike was after his (Abe’s) life.
Abe alleged that the level of conspiracy against him by Wike was an indication that his life was in danger.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Austin Tam-George, has, however, described Abe’s allegation as baseless and diversionary
Abe, during a radio programme in Port Harcourt, said there had been a meeting of militants and that the gathering was sponsored and masterminded by the governor against him.
He stated that the governor and the Peoples Democratic Party in the state should be held responsible should anything happen to him.
A statement from the APC candidate’s spokesman, Mr. Parry Benson, read, “If anything happens to me, Nigerians, Rivers, Ogoni people and my family should hold Governor Nyesom Wike and his PDP people responsible because the threat against my life is too much.”
Abe added that he feared a situation where he could be attacked and the state government would paint a picture that Ogoni people killed him due to the crisis in the area.
He pointed out that Ogoni people loved him and would not do such except outsiders or those who could be sponsored by the state government.
Abe, who is a former Secretary to the State Government added that Wike had in Luuwa, Khana Local Government Area, during the 50th birthday of Senator Lee Maeba, charged his supporters to stop him by all means.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Austin Tam-George, described Abe’s allegation as baseless and diversionary.
Tam-George said that the people of Ogoni would not forgive him (Abe) for allegedly inciting violence against his (Abe’s) people.
According to Tam-George, “Mr. Magnus Abe’s allegations are baseless and diversionary. He needs to curb his neurosis for power.
“I doubt that the Ogonis will ever forgive him for inciting violence against his own people all in pursuit of his selfish political ambition.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
