IGP charges police on human rights

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has charged the police to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens, saying that bail is free.

Arase stated that any police command that was not accountable to the people it serves would not be successful.

He encouraged people in the community to report any policeman caught violating the law.

According to Arase, the force will soon recruit 10, 000 Nigerians in the Nigeria Police Force, adding that community security partnership is the way to enhance effectiveness of the police.

The police boss stated this at the Imo International Convention Centre, Owerri, on Friday during his one-day tour of duty in the state.

He commended the state governor and the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, for promoting community policing, which he said the Force Headquarters had been preaching.

In his speech, Okorocha acknowledged that security was vital to development.

“As the IGP said, this was to help checkmate the activities of hoodlums at the local level. They have aided in curbing to a greater level activities of hoodlums in the communities. My request for this is that Imo is at the centre and we have all it takes to have zonal command office in Owerri, Imo State,” Okorocha said.

  1. I wonder why this man has not been retired for his roles in protecting big thieves. Nigeria Police see no corruption hear no corruption say no corruption.
I understand very well that a house divided against itself shall not stand. It is a shame that a junior officer posted to head EFCC takes all the shines and you fat cats are never border. Well we see reason as in Tafa saga.
If you all -AIGs and above -have dignity by now you should all resign in shame. Nigeria Police will rather terrorise the poor, poverty striken people while providing protection to the crooks who are looting our Treasury. Police officers do you really have conscience? Most of you even know where the crooks hide their assets yet you will not talk. This conspiracy of silence is why your barracks are the worst places to live. Your mumu don do!!!!!!!
