The Islamic Movement in Nigeria again on Wednesday stayed away from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Kaduna State Government to unravel the circumstances that led to the December 12, 2015 clash between the Nigerian Army and the Movement.
El-Zakzaky’s absence forced the panel to again adjourn till Monday, February 29.
At the resumed sitting of the panel on Wednesday, counsel for the IMN, Maxwel Kyon, who appeared before the Commission, pleaded for two weeks adjournment to enable him gain access to Shiekh El-Zakzaky, the ‘Movement’s’ leader.
Counsel for the Nigerian Army didn’t oppose the plea, saying it was in the interest of justice to give the IMN the opportunity to appear before the Commission after he was asked if he agreed to the plea by the chairman of the panel.
But one of the counsels for the Commission, Mr. Usman Yunus Ustaz (SAN), objected to the plea, arguing that two weeks was too long a time, since the panel had only six weeks to conclude with the sitting.
The Commission’s Chairman, who did not grant the IMN’s two weeks plea said,”We are adjourning till February 29, to enable you get access to your client, and whether you get access to him or not, you have to report back to the Commission so that we can continue with the proceedings.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
