EFCC plotting to arrest Ekweremadu, Akpabio – PDP

Following today’s arrest of the Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the PDP has decried what it observed as the “oppressive and unfair treatments” against its key leaders by the Federal Government.

PDP Senators: Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu The party also alerted the nation of plans by the anti-graft body to arrest the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, both members of the party.

In a statement issued by the National Legal Adviser of the PDP, Victor Kwon, in Abuja, on Wednesday, the PDP noted that the arrest and detention of Secondus “is part of the grand script by the APC-led Federal Government to decimate the opposition.” Also following arrest and detention, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh is also currently being prosecuted in connection with $2.1billion arms scam in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The statement added: “We are also aware that plans have been perfected by the Federal Government to arrest and detain the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other leaders of the party on imaginary charges. “Indeed, intelligence available to the party shows that the Federal Government, using its various agencies, is bent on destroying any opposition to the ruling party as all indications show that the government is more interested in humiliating the PDP than fighting corruption.

“Finally, we state that this war on the PDP and its leaders has indeed gone too far. It has now become a mockery of democratic practice.”

  4. As long as we respect the courts and follow due process. I fear that Ekweremadu would be a tough one to go for in light of south east anger but it should not stop the government. It would be nice to see some apc ex pdp in the dock too

  5. Buhari is setting a terribly serious precedence for this country. Obviously, he has been approaching the issues of corruption fighting with bad- belly, vendetta, acrimony, venge-taking and all sort. The question is: Is Buhari fighting corruption or settling old scores with all his perceived political enemies??? Well, as events are unfolding...

  6. Buhari's message to politicians is crystal clear: 'do not abuse the office you occupy, especially when your action(s) constitute(s) a danger to the society.'
The likes of Akpabio, Ekweremmadu are not above the law and should be made to face the music if found guilty.

  8. Most of you make baseless, ethnic based, unalloyed hatred for this God-sent president. Can anyone deny th fact that t men being picked up have ever denied receiving what they are being arrested for? The answer is NO! They stole, received stolen items etc. and they are being asked to return them, simple! I believe most people against this fight, particularly when it concerns a southerner are southerners, because it is in our habit to protest the arrest o our thieving brothers each time. The northerners will always want their own nailed if found wanting. PDP had been in power for 16 years and so had the sole access to our wealth and no one should expect people from other parties being arrested. PDP and its members had been th main looters and it's time to vomit what they looted, so why all these stupid defence some of you want to put up fo them?

    1. U forget that most of APC members today are part of the 16years rule of PDP. Only those that remained in the party are facing the music. Former PDP members are also wealthy people, how did they get their wealth? Buhari prided himself of living a non luxury life after public service but can Obasanjo pride himself or even Tinubu with the kind of wealth they acquired? Corruption fight is beyond present PDP members and most of the accusations centres around PDP 2015 campaign. Talking about campaign issues, both apc and pdp are guilty. Arrest people that stole directly no wahala but stop harassing people that did not know the source of income cos apc too is guilty of collecting money from corrupt sources for their 2015 campaign.

  10. Sincerely speaking, I think the current government is not fighting PDP. If those guys have not stolen any money, there would have been a case against them.
I also do not care whether those being prosecuted are PDP/APC or non-politicians; all I want is a Nigeria where everyone can have access to basic amenities and individuals can have secured means of livelihood irrespective of his/her social status.
