Buhari appoints blind man as aide

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a visually impaired man, Dr. Samuel Ankeli, as his Senior Special Assistant.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President has saddled Ankeli with the responsibility of dealing with persons living with disability on his behalf.

Shehu said Ankeli headed the Directorate of Persons with Disability at the Buhari/Osinbajo APC presidential campaign headquarters, the first of its kind in a political party in Nigeria.

He added that the new presidential aide led a team that successfully mobilised a large number of more than 24 million disabled persons in the country to support the All Progressives Congress’ candidate and his runningmate in the 2015 presidential election campaign.

Ankeli hails from Benue State.

He went to school in Giwa, near Zaria and Kaduna before studying Veterinary Medicine at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He worked with the Benue State Government before quitting to devote his time to his activist role in the promotion of the wellbeing of the blind and people living with disability.

He leads a very active religious and sporting life.

He is married and has children.

    1. You are not representing gay people well with your small minded, bigoted, petty comment. Buhari has included even the blind and disabled people in his team which shows that he is truely for everyone. God bless Buhari for this.

  2. Being blind does not hinder his abilities to work. It is mostly in Nigeria that you see physically challenged as intellectually handicapped. People without arms and legs go to work in developed country with sound mind. To be blind is not a crime

    1. Oh Common, don't be silly. Most Blind people do better than you with things. Their other sensory organs are activated to help them with their disability.
Except the ones who don't want to work though. This one wants to work so let him.

  5. Much as it is good to recognise and respect the fundamental human rights of the physically challenged, the above appointment was regrettably politically motivated. Merit and principle of true federalism ought to have been employed. Well, as events are unfolding...
