Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has reacted angrily to losing out on the CAF African Footballer of the Year award, saying the decision is "pathetic", "indecent" and "brings shame to Africa".
Toure hit out at his critics in a controversial interview in October, accusing detractors of "spreading bulls***", and has had a number of run-ins with the press in the United Kingdom and his home continent.
The 32-year-old captained the Ivory Coast to their first Africa Cup of Nations triumph since 1992 at the start of last year and was named in the competition's team of the tournament.
But he lost out to Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the individual stakes - voted for by coaches and technical directors - and has now hit out at the decision makers, insisting "even Fifa" would not have reached such a conclusion.
“I’m very, very disappointed," he told Afrique Foot. "It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don't think African achievements are important.
“I think this is what brings shame to Africa, because to act in that way is indecent. But what can we do about it? Us Africans, we don’t show that Africa is important in our eyes. We favour more what’s abroad than our own continent. That is pathetic.
“Even Fifa, with all its history of corruption, wouldn’t do this.”
Toure is no stranger to courting controversy in the press and it appears more on the way after he vowed to "tell the truth" when questions come his way.
“Yaya will take care of Yaya and let Africa take care of itself," he added. "As I’ve been told many times, you can’t take care of Africa too much because Africa will be the first to let you down.
“When I return to Europe, a lot of questions will be asked. I think I’m going to have to answer them. As I’m someone who’s honest, I will always tell the truth.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Yaya ur stupid to think that the award is ur birthright..
ReplyDeleteWhy complain? That's how Mikel was sacrificed for you two years ago.
ReplyDeleteHe should STFU is Africa best his birth right Abumeyang deserved it cos he has being up and doing for his club ♣ he is currently the highest goal scorer in Europe
ReplyDeleteit would have been shame to Africa if you won it five times... are you the only player in Africa....?
ReplyDeleteIts a shame he complained about the same CAF that has given him this award four consecutive times... whatever the case, he definitely didn't deserve the fifth crown. As a matter of fact we shouldn't be talking about Yaya (a bad loser), we should actually be talking about the true winner- Pierre- Emerick.
ReplyDeleteIs the trophy your father's property. What did you even play in 2015,Ayew merited the 2nd position
ReplyDeleteAn ingrate like yu,is it your father's property?
ReplyDeletewhat is the matter with this stupid and selfish idiot. you think Africa is your birthright like Manchester City management that were afraid of when they forgot to wish you happy birthday and you threatened them to leave the club. You must be stupid
ReplyDeleteNow you know how it feels like when mikel was denied the said award some years back.
ReplyDeleteYaya Toure is a moron, you have lost all the respect i had for you by making such comments. When Nigeria won the CAF Nations cup and Vincent Enyeama was the captain of the team, also did well abroad. Thesame CAF gave the award to you ,stupid overgrown boy and you didn't deem it right to reject it and tell the truth by letting CAF know that for the love and promotion of Africans Enyeama should be considered. Yet you collected it and with all the money and endorsements that followed after. I said to myself then that one day the truth will be told because the issue of Francophone countries robbing others non francophone countries of this award has been for decades. To mention Jay Jay Okocha, Mikel Obi, Vincent Enyeama etc. This 2015 we were watching to see if a player from Gabon a francophone country will be denied because its your birth right. Africa and CAF would have made the greatest mistake if you were announced the winner. Wake up small boy and congratulate a deserved winner and atleast give him a cheque to support the young talent. Baby Yaya
ReplyDeleteYaya made a point. It is high time Africans respect and acknowledge their achievements inside Africa. But may only problem with Yaya's comment is that he should have made the same observation when the trophy was given to him rather than Mikel who did better than him in African Cup of Nation that year.
ReplyDeleteI think the stupid old small fool should be sanctioned by CAF for his stupid utterances. idiot money miss road
