Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo along with Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar are on the shortlist for the 2015 Ballon d’Or award as a winner will be announced during a ceremony tonight.
The annual event, which crowns the world’s best footballer over the course of the previous 12 months, will also be awarding other top players, coaches, media and team officials from around the globe.
The usual suspects Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid will be joined on the stage by the Brazilian Neymar, who will be hoping to dislodge the duopoly by claiming his maiden Ballon d’Or. Sportstar profiles this year’s contenders.
Having seen Cristiano Ronaldo win the Ballon d'Or awards for 2013 and 2014, Lionel Messi will be hoping to stop him from lifting the trophy he had earned the four previous years again.
Messi will show up in Zurich with five trophies under his arm, as will Neymar. The only one that got away was the Spanish Super Cup, but their contributions have been decisive in all of the competitions which they have played in. Messi can even boast having scored at least one goal in every tournament played in 2015.
Messi scored 58 times in all competitions last year, inspiring a famous treble win for Barcelona and will be a huge favoruete for a record fifth Ballon d’Or award, however you never can tell, Neymar and especially, Ronaldo will be a very strong competition for the award.
