National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said the APC government had no regrets digging deep into the activities of the immediate past government.
According to him, it is necessary to right the wrongs of the past and properly place the country on the right pedestal for economic growth and development.
Oyegun, who fielded questions from journalists in Abuja on an array of contemporary national issues, submitted that APC inherited a ruined economy which would not need quick fixes.
He, however, stated that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari was not oblivious of the plights and frustrations of Nigerians.
He also expressed optimism that there was a silver lining for the country ahead, asking for the patience and understanding of Nigerians.
Oyegun, who also stated that the party was happy investigating the past, said that another regime after theirs could also do the same should the present regime become corrupt.
He also gave prospect to the arrest and prosecution of former President Goodluck Jonathan by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, should the need arise.
He said: “Our party, the APC is very, very aware of the hardship that the misgovernment of the last 16 years has plunged this country. We are aware of the hard times, the tough times that a lot of Nigerians at the moment are going through. Apart from the party, I must also say that it is one of the main concerns of Mr. President.
“He is fully conscious and aware of the tough times that a lot of people are going through. I want to assure the people through you that everything is being done to stabilize the economy and to ameliorate the sufferings that the people are going through.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
