We don’t recognise Biafran passport – US, UK

The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom have said they do not recognise the passports being issued by the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

The National Director of Information, MASSOB, Sunny Okereafor, had said two weeks ago that the passport was valid worldwide, adding that the travel document costs N5,000 while its renewal costs N2,000

He had said, “I assure you that the Biafran passport is valid. Except Nigeria, other countries of the world accept Biafran passport and allow our citizens to travel with it. In Europe, North and South America, Biafran passport is accepted. Nigeria is the only country that seizes Biafran passport. Go to neighbouring Ghana here, they will stamp the passport for you. Don’t be confused by the propaganda of the Nigerian government that there is nothing like Biafra passport.

“MASSOB appeals to Biafran citizens to procure their passport and use it to travel. If you doubt me, get a Nigerian passport while I have my Biafran passport; when we get to Europe, you will see who they will welcome than the other. Many people with the Nigerian passport have been repatriated, but have you heard of anybody with Biafran passport receiving such ill-treatment?”

However, our correspondent sent an email to the American consulate in Lagos to inquire from the US regarding the claim of MASSOB.

In his response, the Deputy Public Affairs Officer at the consulate, Frank Sellin, said, “The United States does not consider passports purporting to be from a Biafra entity to be a valid legal document for purposes of visa issuance.”

A similar response from the British Government was sent to The PUNCH via email.

The UK recalled that it did not support the disintegration of Nigeria during the 1967 Biafran War and had not changed its stance 49 years after.

A statement by the Press and Public Affairs Officer, British High Commission, Abuja, Mr. Joe Abuku, read in part, “The answer is unequivocally ‘no’. The UK does not recognise the so-called Biafran passport

“The position of the UK Government during the Biafran War is a matter of historical record. The UK Government’s position, which reflected the Charter of the Organisation of African Unity, was to recognise the borders laid down at independence.

“The Biafran War caused great suffering and the UK supported the reconciliation work that followed the conflict. The UK supports the territorial integrity of Nigeria and the Nigerian Government’s commitment to work for a secure and prosperous Nigeria for all Nigerians.”

  1. You people supported the reconstruction work that followed after the war.... Where did the reconstruction work take place? South east/South south were destroyed and Lagos/Abuja were reconstructed. Where is FG presence in the South East? Imperial masters. God will definitely judge you all for these wickedness against Africa and the entire black race. You people are supporting Nigeria under Buhari and you are busy withdrawing your investments and the economist it telling the whole world about the dying economy...

    1. When Jonathan was there and you could have pushed seriously and moved, you kept quiet. Only to start making noise now. Abeg, leave story and propaganda. All of you are just political bigots and sadly deceptive. Deceiving fellow ibos to their death because money has changed hands.

  6. Is it by force to live with someone. Relationship has never been by force. There is divorce in marriage. Parasites should please get busy.

    1. You are right, relationship is not by force. But that applies only on personal relationship. In this case, your people voted for governors, NASS members, House of Assembly members and so on under the constitution of Nigeria and they all swore allegiance to Nigeria and they have opposed your agitations. Or who voted for them. Don't forget that minority may have their say, but majority will have their way. If you and the agitators do not want to be Nigerians, that does not mean all SS and SE people agree with you

    2. What a moron he is then. Who do you think you are deceiving? When the SNG was formed and led the by a man with Yoruba blood in him Nigerians(mostly from SW) protested for Jonathan to assume his rightful position in 2010, you didn't see it as rigging. When he was massively voted for by the north and even the SW in 2011 under an INEC led by same Jega, you didn't see rigging. When he got in and filled the most visible positions in govt with SS and SW guys, you didn't see anything wrong with that. When he muzzled and manipulated all organs and leaders of PDP (through threats, cash inducements, appointments etc) to ensure he got nominated without any primaries (even obj with his clout in PDP subjected himself to primaries to get nominated for 2nd term, you didn't see rigging. Even Jonathan himself knew he was no longer popular and he was running from pillar to post using every form of devices including election postponement, cash distribution to traditional rulers and religious leaders, forming alliances with even mushroom parties with cash inducements (a la Falae), you didn't see that as a sign of a leader who knew he wa no longer popular. When the people now delivered their verdict through same INEC led by same Jega, you now term that as rigging. If you are still convince about your opinion after all these, then your conscience needs surgical operation

    3. Then he must have been a dullard and moron. Be sincere for once at least. In 2010, the SNG led by Bakare (a Yoruba) rallied to protest against attempts to prevent Jonathan from assuming his rightful position in the presidency while the Ijaws and Igbos exhibited complacency and docility. In 2011, a Jega led INEC conducted electon and declared Jonathan elected with massive votes across every zone (including the SW and the north) for Jonathan. You didn't see it as rigging. Jonathan ran his administration with dominant appointments given to Igbos and SS people with 'crumbs' given to SW especially in his govt. You were blind to that. Jonathan muzzled PDP prominent and influential leaders and organs using his control of state funds and appointment to ensure he got nomination for 2nd term without primaries using various guises such as right of first consideration (where was that when obj went through primaries for his 2nd term). This pushed so many influential politicians out of the party. Does going with cash in hand to solicit for support of traditional rulers, religious leaders and ethnic organisatiions indicate a sign of popularity (was that done during the first term when he had not even ruled). Does the jittery postponement of the election show a popular candidate. The president and his party (that had ruled continuously for 16 years) were so jittery that they had to use financial inducements to form alliances even with mushroom parties while contesting against a party that was less than 2 years old. It was so bad that the party had to whip up so many sentiments and hate campaigns. I wonder the kind of person you are to expect that kind of candidate to win when the candidate himself knew he had become very unpopular. When the same Jega led INEC came out with the verdict of the people against Jonathan you now call that rigging. Even the party had done a post mortem and agreed that they committed blunders that cost them the election. Even the executives of the party were said to have waivered in their loyalty and commitment and were reluctant to sell the party to the people because of the strong sentiments their people have against the candidate. And you are still saying this unpopular candidate was rigged!!

  12. The Aba Women's Riots of 1929, was an anti-colonial revolt
carried out by the rural women of Owerri and Calabar provinces.
By the time order was restored, about fifty-five women were killed
    by the colonial troops.

  14. Yes Oh my Brother @9.55AM..
The Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi was the traditional head of state of the Bini Empire in 1897.
The Oba's Strongroom or central bank Vault, containing Gold manilas (currency of that era), Rare Brass works, ivory etc., was plundered by the British invaders led by Admiral Sir Harry Holdsworth Rawson and the loot taken to England.
The British are known parasites, the IBOS should ensure they pay a visa fee of US$5000 to vist Biafra territory was the United nations approved Biafra Republic, becos they will surely come.

  17. Nigeria should let them leave.Biafra is still alive. Why can't we have an Igbo president since the Civil War till date?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Igbos should answer that question. Firstly you don't get to be president by continuously being ready to form alliance to become Vice president. You don't become president of a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country like Nigeria by arrogantly continuously denigrating and insulting other major ethnic groups and religion in the country and failing to realise that collaboration is necessary for political success. You don't get the presidency by opting to vote for another party when your great leader like Ojukwu was contesting. Do you know why Igbo has not been president now. But again, is Biafra only for Igbos? If not so then there is no basis for sayng they have not been president bcos Jonathan is from the former Biafra

    2. You should ask the Igbos that question. But I know you don’t get to be president of a multi religious, multiethnic country like Nigeria by arrogantly and continuosly antagonising and insulting other tribes and religion. You also don’t get to be president by perpetually aligning with a tribe that you denigrate often and being ready to play second fiddle to them. You also don’t get to be president by casting your vote for someone else outside of your tribe when you have an Ojukwu contesting for the same office.Igbos have never been politically coordinated and tactical in their appraoch to their goals. They are satisfied with short term gains without being ready to make sacrifices for long term goals.

    1. Don’t mind them. They do not know that deceptions corrupts any merit in any cause you claim to be fighting. The worst part of it is the fraud committed against the same people they claim they are fightng for by swindling them of their money to collect wortless papers in the name of Biafran passport. They were so proud to say that many countries recorgnise the passport when they know that it was false. Now that the major countries their people visit regularly (UK, USA etc) are denying the acceptance of the Biafran passport, that is when they had to go back to pick their history textbooks which they forget when doing vigils prayers for favours and sleeping at those countries embassies to have their visas.
