WATCH VIDEO: Buhari is fighting Boko Haram with the arms I bought – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, said President Muhhamadu Buhari administration’s is prosecuting the war against the Boko Haram insurgency with the arms his administration procured. The ex-president made this revelation in an interview with International news channel, France24.

Jonathan dogged every question thrown at him about Buhari's administration, insisting that it was 'not proper to comment'

Watch video below...

“The new government is working hard and I believe they are still using the equipment we procured. The budget is still being debated, no new equipment has been bought, so even those equipment the president is using to prosecute the war against Boko Haram are those equipment we procured and I believe that with what we left behind and the new ones they will acquire, this issue of Boko Haram will be taken to a logical conclusion.

When Boko Haram started in Nigeria, we had no terror experience. Yes we had armed robbery and other common crimes, but terrorism was different because the people involved were not afraid to die. So, you need a different mechanism to confront terrorism, you need superior technology, so that you will be able to stop them even before the attack. We never had the equipment, but when we were confronted, we started acquiring and before I left office we built reasonable capacity and I believe with what we left behind and also with what the new government will acquire, they will be able to prosecute this terror war to a reasonable conclusion” he said

When asked to speak on the ongoing $2.1 billion arms deal scandal, Jonathan said

"This issue always comes up but I always insist that the matters are being investigated and they are in our own courts and in Nigeria where our issues are before the courts, you don't make comments on it. It is considered prejudice. But one thing you will also realize is that for us to have conducted elections across the country, all parts of the country, that means that we prosecuted the war against Boko Haram to a reasonable level. Otherwise, we couldn't have been in position to conduct elections across the country and we couldn't have fought Boko Haram with bare hands.

This issues of corruption, issues of misuse of funds, being investigated before the courts and I wouldn't want to compromise the position of our laws because while I served as the President of Nigeria, I made sure that the judiciary had their own independence. I made sure that there is maximum separation of powers between all arms of government. So haven left office, I don't think I will be the person that will say things that will be detrimental to the judicial processes" he said

    1. It is like you did not read the speech very well. Military equipment is not groceries that you purchase anyhow. A lot of negotiations are involved which may take years. Even Buhari has spent more than 100 years in office and yet, he has not been able to purchase any. Despite visiting the US, they are still diplomatic about giving us the required military equipment to combat terrorism in Nigeria. Jonathan did a lot of negotiation which Buhari is benefitting from. He began negotiation with the America and the process for the coalition force of the AU began during his tenure. When the military eventually got the ammunition during his tenure, boko haram started losing territories which resulted in the bloodless conduction of general election in the region. I hope you know that the portion of the so-called $2.1 billion was also used to purchase ammunition. Let us be reasonable in our criticism.

  5. Jonathan should really be buried in shame for this statement. Abeg which weapons? 1. the weapons that were bought with the arms deal money shared with your permission by Dasuki? 2. The acclaimed weapons you bought yet could not defeat boko haram? 3. So lets assume you have those weapons? why didnt you defeat BH just as this present government? I still wonder why at this stage you are not investigated but i guess there's more to it (Mutual consent); in developed countries, you must have faced capital punishment or be in jail for all these atrocities committed while in office (you even said stealing is not corruption which means you stole). Even blind, deaf and dumb perceive changes between this Buhari's administration and yours especially BH, security, anti corruption war, recovery of stolen funds, prospective governance, rapid development, and lots more to come, yet you refuse to accept there were changes. your responses and lack of confidence shows no sincerity in your words.

    1. .....definitely and clearly there are changes but from good to bad, from exchange rate of 167 naira to 305 naira per dollars, from properly articulated budgeting to ill-conceived missing budget, from respect of fundamental human rights to abuse of human rights abuses and disrespect of the judiciary and over presumptuousness, from vision to a vision less rule, from national inclusiveness to nepotic tribal and sectional inclusiveness, from preservation of our national reserve to baseless squandering of the reserve for frivolous travels, from passionate leadership to arrogance noise making ruler ship., if GEJ was a failure like all the APC clowns wants the world to believe, He would definitely not be attracting the worlds attention and audience, what other evidence is there to show, The rapid development of APC is on the hardwork of PDP legacies which they want bury alive. But unknown to them the more vilification on PDP, the more they expose their incompetence and lack of capacity to stir the ship of Nigeria. The anti corruption drama in the country is part of the bigger scripts they have been playing even before ascending to power, Dasuki was sponsored to infiltrate the PDP and frustrate the war on boko haram and share the part of the arms fund to discredit the government , the boko haram sponsored by the APC, the BringBackOurgirls, and the SuperJega electronic conspiracy against the unsuspecting PDP. APC was desperate for power to underdevelop Nigeria

  10. Nigerians are in a hurry to dismiss GEJ's involvement in graft but the court proceedings on Metuh's case shows his deep involvement. How do you explain the fact that he presided over the meeting with our Okupe and Abati to misappropriate fund meant for procurement of arms and ammunition. This man is a crook

    1. Are you pretending not to know the frustrations he went through to buy arms and the commendable progress he made towards the end of the administration. The Federal Government literarily used money to beg America, South Africa to sell arms but America ensured that even their allies did not sell. This resulted to flying cash to buy arms in an unorthodox manner just to save our heads even though people did not appreciate this effort
