Selfish leaders are hindering Nigeria's growth - Obasanjo

A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised the nation’s leaders against selfishness in the interest of the country’s growth and progress.

He said they should let the interest of the governed be paramount to them.

He gave this advice on Friday at his Presidential Hilltop residence, Abeokuta, when the leadership and members of the Scout Association of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit and decorated him as Messenger of Peace Ambassador for Africa.

The former President who recalled when he was decorated as Queen’s Scout years ago, emphasised that for any leader to succeed, such a leader must always be prepared to face challenges, especially the unexpected ones.

He said, “We need a scout spirit in our country not just for individual benefit alone but for services to the nation. Work collectively and provide the leadership that will make us get progress.”

Obasanjo called on Nigerians to work collectively with their leaders, arguing that this would ensure meaningful progress in all spheres.

Obasanjo said, “I will not only live up to expectations but also inspire others. Be prepared in all ramifications, if you are adequately prepared mentally, spiritually, educationally, religiously and culturally, there will be no situation in life you cannot be able to face.

“As you move ahead in life, you will meet unexpected things, so prepare for all eventualities.”

He assured the group that he would help to inform President Muhammadu Buhari to fix the date for his own decoration as the Grand Patron of the association, which would be automatic in line with the association’s constitution.

  2. Compare Former President Obasanjo with those that ruled Nigeria before and tell who surpassed his achievements.

Before criticizing him, ask for how many Nigerians are getting their daily meals from his biz? We just know that no human being is perfect, expect Almighty Allah.

  6. If actually you're a true leader which you claimed tell us which party you belong to because the last time I checked you torn your PDP membership card and you are yet to publicly announce where you belong. Also there's a rumour about a prophecy made by one of the prophesies for 2016 that you will die this year. Please if this is true I will urge you to live the rest part of your life in dignity and honour because there's nothing to write about your past.

  7. IN SPITE OF ALL CRITICISM EMANATING FROM HATERS OF FORMER PRESIDENT OBASANJO, I STILL UPHOLD HIM IN HIGH ESTEEM. WE MUST ALWAYS BE REMINDED THAT, AS HUMAN, WE ARE BOUND TO COMMIT SINS AND MISTAKES. CHIEF OBASANJO IS NO EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE BUT IN ALL CASES, HE IS TRULY A COMMITTED LEADER WHOSE ASPIRATION IS TO BUILD LASTING PEACE, PROGRESS AND TRANQUILITY IN THE COUNTRY. WITH REFERENCE TO PROPHESY ABOUT DEATH OF CHIEF OBASANJO THIS YEAR, I CONFIRM TO YOU THAT NO MAN BORN OF A WOMAN IS CAPABLE OF PREDICTING DEATH! IT IS GOD WHO IS CAPABLE OF MAKING SUCH PREDICTION. MY OWN EVALUATION OF THE PROPHECY IS THAT OBASANJO WOULD NOT DIE BUT LIVE TO DECLARE AND GIVE GLORY TO ALMIGHTY GOD. AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE DEATH PREDICTION IS TO DRAMATICALLY ENHANCE HIS LIFE. IN PASSING, WE MUST ALWAYS LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE LEADERSHIP QUALITY OF LEADERS SUCH AS CHIEF OLUSEGUN OBASANJO.
