More influential Nigerians on EFCC radar, they will be arrested soon - Ibrahim Magu

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has said that more influential people will be arrested soon.

According to him, “more influential Nigerians are on the radar of the EFCC and, in the coming weeks, they would have their days in court and Nigerians will be kept fully abreast of the results of the Commission’s investigations”.

Magu made this assertion in Abuja on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at a meeting with online media practitioners and broadcast media managers.

He stated that the essence of the meeting was to solicit media support and understanding to deepen the fight against fraud, corruption and economic crimes. He asked for advice and suggestions in effectively propagating the war against graft.

“Apart from bringing corrupt public officers to justice, we are determined, in line with the stance of the current administration, to send an unmistakable message to everyone, that no Nigerian shall be regarded as being above the law or treated as a sacred cow as far as the fight against corruption is concerned.

“The EFCC needs you; Nigeria needs your critical support if we are to make any headway in this important campaign against corruption. My plea for your support is underscored by my understanding that the forces which we are battling are powerful and some of them may want to use all platforms of the media to distract and derail us. If and when they come to you, please allow the ethics of your profession, your conscience and overriding national interest to be your guide”, Magu said.

The EFCC boss explained that he has re-ordered the priorities of the EFCC and he finds inspiration in the unbending will of President Muhammadu Buhari to fight corruption.

He added that the judiciary has responded with some practical steps in the form of the designation of selected courts to try EFCC cases.

When asked about the perceived unbalance nature of the arrests made so far, Magu responded by saying “Such accusations have come up a lot, but we work with petitions before us. In fact, I am eager and waiting for something from the other side, but nothing has come so far,” he said.

  2. What did formal kano state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwakwaso do with all the 44 local government allocation? And why did he not conduct any local government election during his time as governor but appointed officers without portfolio?

    1. Just like Mimiko in Ondo State, fools like you are blind to the fact that we need to prioritise the struggle. 50% of the money spent is at the federal level, the reason the fight has to start from there. Instead of the states where all the 36 governors put together have just about 33%. It is a lot easier for EFCC to get the necessary information through a determined PMB.

  4. Sit down look na dog name! We are looking forward to the list and if for no reasons there are no APC members among the list then, it will be obvious that it's just a matter of the strong trying to oppress the weak. We have gone through this process in the past and history shouldn't repeat itself.

  6. Whether trial by the media or whatever you call it, it's still better than evil and wicked silence by your brothers. Is it not your court that is granting Saraki all kinds of injunctions, etc. If all PDP corrupt politicians are grid, let them do same to all APC corrupt politics when they regain power. Simple as A B C.

  10. I hope EFCC won't overlook one Olusegun Obasanjo. This individual is long overdue to be quizzed about how he managed funds at his disposal while in office. Also, there's a Bode George hitching to be invited by your office to be questioned. Please don't deny him a chance to have his say in this corruption matter. Thanks EFCC.

  11. Also OBJ' s vice Atiku......who is Buhari's friend or brother need ne investigated thoroughly, yet all these thieves children are being recycled into public offices. The need be a constitution in place that prohibits direct families of any founded guilty public person from being elected into public office for one century with a data base accessible to all Nigerians for the names of such looters.

  17. Federal character is not a consideration in the war against corruption. People should stop this useless allegation of "selectivity" in prosecuting the war. Just provide credible evidence against APC chieftains and see whether or not, they will be charged to court. Even then, the guilt of the PDP chieftains who unfairly shortchanged the masses cannot be justified by the guilt of those in APC. Let us allow the law to take its course.
