How I shared the N260 Million paid into my account from Dasuki's office - Tony Anenih

Ex-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT) chair Tony Anenih has explained how he disbursed the N260 million paid into his bank account from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) believes the cash came from the allegedly misappropriated $2.1 billion arms funds.

Anenih wrote to the EFCC to state, among others, that he gave N63 million to a group coordinated by a former Special Assistant to former President Shehu Shagari (National Assembly Liaison), Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, for the 2015 presidential election.

Yakassai may be invited for interrogation over the “curious” payment, NE learnt yesterday.

Anenih was said to have told EFCC that he didn’t benefit from the money, but that he only shared it, following instructions.

Also yesterday, EFCC detectives grilled PDP National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh for nine hours over alleged N1.4billion traced to a company in which he has a stake. The cash is believed by the EFCC to be part of the $2.1 billion arms funds.

There were indications that Metuh might be detained by the agency.

According to sources, Metuh was arrested at about 9am at his Abuja home by three operatives.

At about 9.30am, he was taken into the interrogation room where he was confronted with some allegations, including evidence of transactions, for his reaction.

A top source, who spoke in confidence, said: “Metuh has been busy in the last nine hours writing a statement on some issues we have isolated for him.

“We have asked him to respond to the payment of N400million into Destra Investment Limited, a company he has high stake in.

“Metuh is also expected to explain some suspicious lodgments into the account of the company by some individuals and a company with link to one of the firms which was involved in arms procurement.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “We are yet to freeze the account of Destra Investment Limited but we will do so.

“Already, the EFCC is collaborating with all relevant banks in this regard. We will invoke the relevant section of the EFCC Act on the account soon.”

The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Metuh was being interrogated.

The EFCC has started investigating alleged “curious” payment of N63million to a group led by Yakassai for the 2015 elections.

It was learnt that the probe followed a letter to the EFCC by a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, on how he distributed the N260million paid into his account by the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA).

A highly-placed source in EFCC said: “Chief Tony Anenih has written the EFCC on how he disbursed N260million from ONSA to various groups including a team being coordinated by Tanko Yakassai.

“Anenih specifically indicated in the letter that N63million was given to Yakassai’s group. He mentioned a few others whose identities we will not disclose until our investigation has reached an appreciable stage.

“We will unveil the names of all the beneficiaries of the N260million soon. But we are at a level that we need to invite Yakassai to shed more light on why his group was allocated N63million arms funds.”

The source also added: “Besides the letter, we will invite Anenih to make a Statement on Oath and for interrogation.”

One of the charges against a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki and a former Director of Finance and Administration this office, Shaibu Salisu, was the transfer of N260million to Anenih.

The charge said: “That you Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki whilst being National Security Adviser and Shaibu Salisu, whilst being the Director of Finance and Administration in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) on or about 28th November 2014 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, and in such capacities entrusted with dominion over certain properties to wit: the sum of N260million being part of the funds in the account of the ONSA with Skye Bank Plc committed criminal breach of trust in respect of the said property when you transferred same to the bank account of Tony Anenih with First Bank of Nigeria Plc and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Vol.4, LFN 2004.”

  8. We know elections are expensive to fund, While I frown at the PDP level of involvement in the arm saga, lets find out how APC funded their election also. Our aim is to eradicate corruption. If PDP used money for arms, what about APC. Have we wondered why all APC governors could not pay salaries prior to the elections and owed workers for several months. There was change at the Federal level that's why these allegations are being exposed and the only APC state were change occurred was Rivers. Wike's attempt to expose how 50Billion naira disappeared was swept under the carpet and till date, amaechi has not been invited. Amaechi even said that he ensured that he paid all contractors before his tenure expired, a better way to embezzle. He paid all contractors and owed workers for 7 months bcos u cant steal salary. Which payment should have more priority. IF only there was change in Imo, osun, Lagos and the rest, Nigerians would weep at what politicians do to win election.

I say lets kick them all out, both APC and PDP and bring a youthful party where the age limit is 50. Let all them Grandpa go home with their billions and play with their grandchildren as retirement cos before we know, its their children and inlaws that will continue to run this country as monarchs.

Rubbish PDP and APC. Obj and his administration escaped persecution by simply tearing his PDP card and we are here deceiving ourselves that Corruption is only in PDP.

    2. I see you are trying to becloud the issue by throwing in the APC funding question. How about this: You catch a thief that has burgled your house in a neighbourhood known for burglary, and you take him to the Police Station. The Police Officer then says to you: "Sir, we need to find out who burgled those other houses as well before we deal with your case." How would you like that?

People like you who keep pointing fingers at other possible looters just to divert attention from the case at hand are the enemies of Nigeria. You are the people with the "I'm not the only one" syndrome.

    3. Last man here on comment.you are talking trash ok. There is nothing like diverting attention by throwing in APC. Umpire is sure right with his comments. You and I know how Obj and his ministers were corrupts but for the fact he is now a member of the APC he is clean over night. The truth is APC and PDP are parties of same blood of corruption running in their system. If Buhari got a share of the money so tell me how is he free of corruption. If Governors donate state fund to sponsor his election tell me how are they free. How come EFCC is after all PDP party holders? Let's see how far Buhari and EFCC will fight corruption and reduce it.

    4. @Umpire & Prince Ebose, Shame on you, that you are still covering up for Jonathan's despite all these looting that is bring reported? It's people like you too that will do same if you are in government. The facts are clear and these thieves are not denying. Stop perpetrating rumors and bar-drunk-gists about perceived & assumed embezzlement by some APC governors. God will judge all these theives. Tha blood of those that have been killed by Book Haram will cry vengeance on all of them in this Dasukigate!

  9. I can understand why the likes of Metuh, Fayose & Fani Kayode were ranting. It is a ploy to divert attention from the reality on ground. I hope PMB will not succumb to their gimmicks and unravel their colossal drain of our commonwealth.

  10. Why don't you mention everybody that shared in the loot?is it yakassai alone? I believe the others that will never be mentioned belong to the APC.

  11. This's quite alarming and shocking even an embarrassment to Nigeria as a country and Nigerians. It really worrisome that people entrusted with looters ill gotten wealth sudden became murders even to worsen and further compounds the hardship Nigeria and Nigerians are going through. What then can one say to all this wickedness? God please help us out that man may fear thew. Nigeria and Nigerians are very bitter about this shameful acts from our so called leaders. What kind of image do we portray to the world if I might pulse to ask? I believe God wouldn't rest until the be brought to book and adequate punishment melted. We need people like Mandela of South Africa, and Rawlins of Ghana or else Nigeria become like a forsaken and abandoned nation by God. If what God is presently using President M Buhari and his cabinet to is with honest intention, I say, this might likely be compared to his system during his tenure as the then Nigeria Head of State in conjunction with vice, late Idiagbon.then we need to sacrifice to return this country to its intended purpose of God

  19. I read somebody wrote the looters should be jailed for life. I don't agree to that idea. The best is to take them all to firing quad without mercy. Imagine how these idiots are wasting the nation's hard earned money. Many Nigerians are in diaspora suffering because of these bastards, people in the country are already almost deat because of these same shameless thieves.
