Supreme Court overturns Appeal Court ruling, affirms election of Nyesom Wike as Rivers governor

The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Nyesom Wike as governor of Rivers State. The court will give reasons for its decision of February 12.

The Court of Appeal had on December 16 affirmed the judgment of the Rivers Governorship Election Tribunal.

The appeal court had ruled that Mr. Wike was not validly elected.

The Rivers Tribunal had earlier on October 24 nullified Mr. Wike’s election.

The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja, also ordered that a fresh governorship election be conducted in the state.

After the tribunal’s ruling, the governor headed to the Court of Appeal, saying the judgment was untenable.

The petition challenging the election of Mr. Wike as Rivers State Governor was filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the election.

The Rivers governorship election, which was criticised by local and international observers, witnessed the largest amount of violence both in its build-up and after the election.

  14. APC influenced the tribunal and the appeal court, but could not do likewise at the Apex court due to the disposition of the judges, being the final arbiters . God gave justice to wike and the good people of Rivers state . Bloodbath averted! . Only console with the senators, house of representatives and assembly members who suffered this injustice because there was no opportunity to go to the supreme court. With Wike as the governor, the people will still return all of you back to your positions forcefully and illegally taken away by men of power. It is well

  23. This final judgement has saved lot of lives that would have lost by re- conducting another election in Rivers State. God intervened by using Supreme Court Judges. Enough of Blood shed. No ambition worth the blood of Rivers Citizen. Thanks to the enormous prayers! TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

AS FOR THE GOVERNOR, HE SHOULD SEE THE HAND OF GOD IN THIS VICTORY AND WORK HARD IN THE WAYS OF THE LORD, OTHERWISE...
