Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party has been declared winner of the controversial Bayelsa State governorship election.
Dickson was declared winner of the election after he polled 134,998 votes, 48,146 votes more than his closest rival, former Governor, Timipre Sylva of the All Progessives Congress.
The Returning Officer of the election, Zana Akpagbu, returned Dickson as winner of the election, saying he had satisfied all requirements.
He said that, “Dickson Henry Seriake of PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law and secured the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner of the election.”
In all, there were 225,527 valid votes; 6, 647 rejected votes, while the total votes cast were 232,167.
Dickson, who secured the most votes in the December 5, election had also led Sylva in the supplementary election.
The Chief Returning Officer and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Zane Akpagu declared that Governor Seriake Dickson of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement needed and scored highest number of votes is the winner of the election.
The outcome of the election, which was accepted by state agents of five political parties, was rejected by the APC state agent, Barr.Dennis Otiotio.
Otioti decried the decision of the Chief Returning Officer of INEC,Professor Zane Akpagu to shun the various objections and petitions against the alleged unlawful decision by the various local government returning officers to cancel elections in areas perceived to be the under the control of the APC.
He said: “Everywhere APC won, the collation officer looking for a flimsy excuse to cancel it. The process must be free, fair and the proceedure must be seen to be so. We submitted petitons but the electoral officers refused to collate them.”
Otiotio, who also tried to draw the attention of the Chief Returning Officer to the perceived commission to announce the total number of cancelled votes and the difference of the votes between Governor Seriake Dickson and Chief Timipre Sylva, was simply turned down with the announcement that the Final Result sheet did not make provision for A column on Cancelled votes.
Some APC supporters claimed that though the final result showed that Governor Dickson won with 134,998 votes as against 86,852 votes scored by Chief Timipre Sylva of APC,the difference of 48,146 votes and the total number of cancelled votes is 53,959 which surpassed the difference between the First,Governor Dickson and Chief Timipre Sylva called to question the validity of the Poll.

Interesting despite PDP cries of rigging by Federal Government
ReplyDeleteEven with the whole rigging PDP still won shame on you APC
ReplyDeleteIf the election is done 100 times PDP will still win
ReplyDeleteThe margin is something else almost doubling Apc...this is a lesson we must learn
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Gov.Fayose's Congratulatory msg.....#SayNoToImpunity
ReplyDeleteWe thank God, Senators n Former president.
I think the most important people to thank are the people of Bayelsa...they did not give in to intimidation
DeleteThis time around everybody is wise. No more cheating.the margin is too much
ReplyDeleteThat is good no magomago
ReplyDeleteNigerians are funny people. PMB and INEC are OK in this election but should APC secure victory anywhere else it is rigging or presidency muscling the opposition.
ReplyDeleteVictory is not secured it is deserved..
DeleteAPC can never win Bayelsa unless they declare result without election as they do in the military era. So far Buhari is on the throne APC cannot win
