Why I collected N2.1 bn from ex-NSA Dasuki – AIT boss, Raymond Dokpesi

Raymond Dokpesi, founder of Daar Communication, owners of Ray Power radio network and Africa Independent Television, has said the money he received from the office of the National Security Adviser during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan was payment for media and political campaign for the 2015 general election.

Mr. Dokpesi was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission on Tuesday over the N2.1 billion he allegedly received from the office of the NSA.

The Nigerian government has made high profile arrests in connection with alleged diversion of billions of naira meant for procurement of arms for the fight against Boko Haram.

A former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, is among those arrested.

Mr. Dokpesi’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, had earlier told newsmen his client had written to the EFCC informing the anti-graft body it never did business with the NSA’s office.

“What I know is that the EFCC wrote to Daar Holdings asking for a list of directors and whether it has done any business or contract with the office of the NSA in the past and how much was involved,” the lawyer said in a telephone interview.

“We wrote them a reply to say Daar did not do any contract with the office of the NSA and we are ready to give them all the information they need,” he said.

But according to the News magazine, Mr. Dokpesi, in statement released by his company on Wednesday, explained he was invited by the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, to “shed more light on some payments that were made to him through the office of the erstwhile National Security Adviser to the former President, Malam Sambo Dasuki”.

“Dokpesi explained to the EFCC officials that the N2.1 billion that he collected from the former NSA was payment for publicity and media political campaigns during the 2015 General Elections,” the paper quoted the statement as saying.

Mr. Dokpesi “made his statement on the various media exposures and campaign transactions which were dutifully carried out based essentially on contractual obligations/relationship”, the statement added.

The statement was however silent on why Mr. Dokpesi received payment for a political media campaign, which ordinarily should have been the prerogative of the Peoples Democratic Party (Mr Jonathan’s party), from the office of the NSA.

Following an interim report released by a presidential committee investigating arms procurement in the last administration, which revealed extra-judicial spending of up to N643.8 billion and a further $2.2 billion, the EFCC set up a special panel to probe how the monies were spent.

The investigation is still on-going and more senior officials in the last administration are expected to be quizzed on the disbursement and spending of the monies.

  3. Even if Dokpesi wanted to collect payment of the campaign advertisements he did for PDP, is the office of the NSA the right place ? Why did PDP as a party not pay Raypower by themselves ? Does NSA office in position to pay advertorial payment of political campaign ?
Before they said Buhari is just making media noise and no arrest was made and now they said govt is partial.

    1. Are u listening to hungry Nigerians who comment like toddlers. The truth about how GEJs government ruined this country will come out eventually. All these ones you are seeing are the small change they were sharing some people collected Millions of dollars for GEJ campaign. And Nigerians are saying Buhari should allow Dasuki travel out yet they say Buhari should jail corrupt people I wonder what we really want. We will say we want 24hours electricity yet when PHCN bring metre box to our houses, we will pay an electrician to tamper with it so that we can have light without paying for it. Nigerians are the biggest problem of Nigeria not even Buhari or GEJ because even when we see the light we refuse to enter it we prefer to stay in the darkness. Am sure GEJ being a prof realized our foolishness and decided to capitalize on it and empty the treasury to share 1,500 for people on the street to vote for him.

  4. Now the truth is coming out. Chief Dokpesi wants us to believe that he was the hidden Director of PDP campaign organisation. We are very lucky in Nigeria that PDP was voted out of power. More revelation will be unfolded in future.

  7. How heartless can this people be? and the soldiers fighting boko haram were left without sufficient weaponry while monies released to the NSA were being used to fund campaign. The blood of innocent Nigerian civilians killed by boko haram and soldiers killed at the war front for failure of govt to adequately equip them will haunt you and your generations

  8. People say this govt is partial, is selective in fight against corruption. My answer is when power change hand in future the new govt should be selective. The overall winner is the country. Remember OBJ did same. .

  13. Mr dokpesi be held responsible for all the rot he did. Can you imagine a businessman sharing government money? And not only government money but money meant for purchase of arms and ammunition after knowing fully well that the country is going through a difficult security challenge. The blood of the innocent dead people will continue to fight all of you that are involved.

  14. FFK and Fayose have not heard about this for their comment. This is just the beginning
The innocent soldiers were being put in line for execution. And AIT is part of the media broadcasting the new but they are part of the cause for the soldiers condemned for execution

  21. How did Buhari fund his campaign? From his pocket or people like Ameachi who spent Rivers state money to sponsor it. All of them politicians are guilty of this offense. Now we'll see accusations and counter accusations because PDP and APC are guilty. For all the campaigns they did locally and internationally huge funds were spent. So make fowl yansh begin to open as e don enter campaign funds.

  22. Dokpesi this shows that you are not an inteligent thief, if it is expert like me, I would have told Dasuki to pay the money into PDP A/C thereafter I'll ask PDP to write a cheque for me to that amount to justity the publicity work I did for them. Since you are a greedy person you want to chop alone then you'll sink in jail alone. You'll tell Nigerians if Dasuki was the minister for information.
