Social media space needs clean up — APC

Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, says the social media space needed clean up as the use of outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms was wrong.

Odigie-Oyegun said this in Abuja on Wednesday in an interaction with newsmen.

He said that the party’s stance on the controversial Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Matters known as the anti-social media bill was known.

“The social media space needed clean up as the use of outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms is wrong”.

He also said James Faleke will be replaced as deputy governor-elect should the need arise.

On subsidy, he said: “ whether subsidy goes or stays is an intricate and major issue.
‘’If it has to go, the government must have to construct the palliatives to cushion the effect of the hardships that may come on the ordinary Nigerian.

“Anyway, eventually, subsidy will have to go but we have not reached that stage yet.
‘’You cannot just wake up and announce that subsidy has been removed without putting the adequate programmes in place to cushion the negative aspects that may be involved.’’

The chairman told the newsmen that minimum wage was a delicate issue because there were a lot of forces at work.

“The economy was run aground so badly that they have to borrow to pay salaries and this was not the creation of APC.

“Today all governments are borrowing to pay salaries and that cannot be sustained. What the solution is on the longer term, the machinery of governance is still working on.

“There is no method that is adopted that will not create stresses on any system but at the end of the day, we will find an answer,’’ he said.

On Bayelsa election outcome, Odigie-Oyegun said that the party was not satisfied but said that since INEC had made a pronouncement on it, the option the party had was to accept it or go to court.
‘’We are waiting for the processes to be concluded, but I must say we have a lot of reservations about what has gone on up till the present moment.

“If we win as we expect to win, the kind of reactions that we’ll take will be different,’’ he said.

  1. They now want to kill the same media they used to fight the previous government to get to Power.
They know that their emptiness will soon be open for everyone to see. So thy want to block it before it happens.
Unfortunately for them, you cannot eat pepper fruit secretly. The whole world is one small village now. Close it in Nigeria, it will leak in Ghana, USA and elsewhere

  3. Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, should respect himself and leave the use of outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms to continue in the social media. This is because APC, through Sahara Reporters came to power by using outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms against the Jonathan administration. It is time for Frankenstein to contend with the monster he created. So APC live with the abuses and insults on the social media, you created it, it has come to stay, and it is your turn to have a taste of your own medicine. GEJ swallowed it and left office like a gentleman. It will be fun to watch how you and APC will manage the abuses and insults from the social media. However, let it be on record that any attempt by the APC government to shutdown the social media will mean that DICTATORSHIP has decided to put on a civilian cloak. That, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, will be very-very bad for the APC lead government because the global community will descend on this government with an unimaginable ferocity, that the hatred for your government will douse out what ever support you may have enjoyed so far. A word is enough for the wise. APC.....Be Wise!!!

  5. Lai Mohammed, Babatunde Fashola, Adams Oshiomole n APC generally, openly insulted GEJ n his administration n never were they constructive in all dia insults, to d extent dat GEJ was called d most insulted president of Nigeria yet he signed d freedom of information bill into law. He swallowed all d insults, rigging n underage voting in most part of d north n all d malpractice dat played out in favour of APC yet he didn't go to tribunal. I hope dat Nigerians can see d difference between a Democrat n a Dictator. Buhari may have openly distanced himself from d controversial bill but just watch out how it's gonna end. It could still become a law without d president's assent. I said it from d onset dat buhari n APC is going to take Nigeria nowhere so now I'm just watching to see how it goes.

  7. Why do these people bother so much about insults and abuses when they have not even stayed up to one year in office? I remember the saying 'a clear conscience fears no accusation.' If they are doing the right things as claimed, why bother with accusations. Please you guys should just do what you promised this nation and stop wasting your time on trivial issues. After all, Obama and Jonathan have suffered more insults than all of you put together. Shikena!

  11. APC are playing with our freedom. It is wise to vote out APC. Well that is if the election would be free and fair like GEJ. I doubt whether we can have a free and fair election again in Nigeria. Bayelsa election shows the extreme wickedness and dubious nature of APC. APC should forget Bayelsa State. APC winning in Bayelsa is like APC winning in Anambra. It cannot happen because the majority of the people hate APC
