Presidential media chat: Being an opposition party, not licence to abuse Buhari, APC tells PDP

The All Progressives Congress , APC, Thursday, took exception to what it referred to as unwarranted abuse of President Muhammadu Buhari by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its members, warning that it may not condone such act anymore.

The party specifically told the opposition party and its members that being in opposition or critic was not a licence to denigrate the president or his office.

APC National Chairman, John Oyegun, in a statement, through the party’s Assistant Director, Media and Publicity, Edegbe Odemwingie, condemned what it called the “Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) unprovoked insults and unguarded statements on President Muhammadu Buhari and other members of the APC.'”

The statement reads: ‘”In the aftermath of Wednesday’s widely-acclaimed presidential chat, PDP’s spokesman, Olisa Metuh in a statement issued on Thursday amongst others called President Buhari an “unrepentant tyrant” and “fascist”. In other baseless allegations, the PDP accused ministers and APC members of corruption while further accusing the president of a selective anti-corruption fight.

“APC’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun: “The APC is worried by PDP’s inciting statements. Respect for the office of the President or heads of government in any clime is not a matter of choice but a civic obligation sanctioned by laws. Being an opposition party or critic is no license to issue abusive, intemperate and slanderous statements on government officials; most especially the President of the country.

“The PDP has proven that it is not a party to be trusted or taken seriously. Only recently, the PDP said in a December 24, 2015 statement: ‘we urge that Nigerians should not recourse to hauling insults on the President’.

“For the umpteenth time, the APC urges Nigerians who see merit in the war that the President Buhari-led administration is waging against corruption, not to be distracted by the PDP and their agents of corruption to discredit the war. For the records, the ongoing war against corruption is not selective. Anybody guilty of corrupt practices will face the law.

“If the PDP has any proof of corruption against any APC member or minister as alleged, we advise that they approach any of the anti-graft agencies constitutionally mandated to handle such cases.

“PDP’s rant suggesting a selective anti-corruption fight by the present administration should be seen as a plot meant to distract the citizenry from the successful ongoing war against graft.

  1. To bad to subject president to assault but who layer the foundation? It was APC people all including lai Mohd that taught us how to disrespect president during their power struggle. Even gentle fashiola became attacking dog on jonathan. Oshiomole, ameachi, okorocha, fayemi, aregbosola, the new PDP etc all showed us how to disrespect the president. It is a presidence which Nigerians have adopted. Only time will remedy it.

  4. What goes around also comes around.
In your time as opposition you desecrated the office of the president of federal republic of Nigeria. You disrespected that office, you dishonoured it. Then it was okay. You called the occupier then all sorts of unprintable names and abuse without restraint. The man did not retaliate for once.
So the seeds you sowed then have started yielding fruits, just be prepared a bountiful harvest. Since you have sown sacriledge bountifully, you will also reap curses bountifully. It is a law of nature, you can't escape it. The earlier you know it the better.

  8. Hmmmm. Nigerian youths have really lost any iota of decorum and respect. So politicians are now the standards of our moral. Little wonder we want to steal like them. Make God (not anyone) your standard and do what is right. You will see Nigeria become great again

  9. Remember Mallam El-Rufai? Now governor of Kaduna State? Remember how he used to use his tweeter handle to abuse GEJ? Remember his cartons? All that happened with APC as opposition. Now PDP is opposition, so APC take am.....Back to sender. This is just the beginning. Abuse dey come. APC never see anything yet. Now nah morning (2016). By the time we get to night (2019), APC will not be able to carry the basket of insults, insolence, and outright abuses that will be heaped on President Buhari. So my question is if APC is complaining so early in this abuse stage, what will happen in the later stage? Lets watch!!!
