No single community under Boko Haram control in Nigeria – NEMA

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Sani Sidi, on Friday said there was no remaining community in the North East under the control of Boko Haram insurgents.

He made this statement at an award ceremony organized by Northern Youth Council in Kaduna.

“There is no community that has not been liberated from Boko Haram now.

“We should thank our soldiers and the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to making sure this has come to pass,” the D-G said.

Mr. Sidi also said President Muhammadu Buhari had reduced the work of the emergency agency from dealing with emergency situations to rehabilitation of victims of all kinds of emergency.

The NEMA boss said there were no victims of disaster brought to the IDPs camps anywhere in the country now.

“We are soon getting over with the emergency issues; we are heading towards rehabilitation of IDPs instead.

“The government is working with various international agencies to make sure those at the IDPs camps are fully rehabilitated,” Mr. Sidi said.
The youth council honoured Mr. Sidi with the award of Ambassador of Hope at an event held at the Kunfukun Hotel Kaduna.

Mr. Sidi however dedicated the award to staff of NEMA and displaced persons.

In his speech, the president of the group, Isah Abubakar, hailed the NEMA boss for his achievements at the emergency agency.

“Your commitment to making sure you give the best to the people especially those at the IDPs can never be over emphasised.

“Before now, NEMA was just an agency but you made it a working one during your tenure,” Mr. Isah said.
The event was attended by representatives of youth from all the Northern states.

  1. Again, insurgency claims more lives, as bereaved accuse Lai Mohammed of false assurance
As the numbers of death and serious casualties increase in Aladuwari village (about 2 km away from Maiduguri) as a result of sporadic shoot-out and explosions that rocked the village, families of the reported victims have accused the Minister of Information and spokesman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Lai Mohammed, of false assurance given Nigerians that the Boko Haram sects have been defeated.
The bereaved, who alleged on Sunday evening that the minister deliberately set the trap for the people in the area with his false declaration few days ago, claimed they returned to their respective villages with the families without anticipation of fear or threat to their lives after the minister had declared the region safe and peaceful.
Sanni Shehu, a father of six killed, who spoke with our reporters said he had lost his children to the battle.
He said the gunmen engaged the soldiers with full force and several belongings of the villagers have been consumed in the war zone.
"Those living in Aladuwari and neighboring settlement must have been killed since the shootings were not restricted but free for all.
"The Boko Haram sects were brutal and cruel on villagers around here and they've never withdrawn from fights and bombing, as against what the minister claimed," Shehu faulted Lai.
Alhaji Bako, one of the community leaders in the neighboring village, told our reporters that the insurgency had only been curtailed on pages of the dailies and not in reality as claimed by the APC-led federal government.
He pointed accusing finger at the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed for given false assurance and hope to common men on the streets.
He admonished the minister to seek forgiveness from Allah, saying he had endangered several lives with the declaration that the sects have been defeated which was far from the truth.
"It was an inconclusive and faulty declaration, that those who kill innocent Nigerians on a minute basis and who have never seized fire for a moment have been defeated on pages of the newspapers as erroneously trumpeted by the minister.
"The two suicide bombers who detonated explosives near FOMWAN School in Jiddari area of Maiduguri today, we need to ask our confused minister where the bombers came from after his acclaimed defeated.
"The earlier we tell Lai Mohammed to stop feeding Nigerians with lies and propaganda the better. He needs to understand the genuine onus of his office, that it goes beyond playing to the gallery all in name of protecting the interest of his political party.
"Here we live in fear and pains suffered from the hands of the sects, who kill, molest and kidnap our kinsmen on daily basis without successful government intervention.
"It is therefore politics played too far for the Minister of Information to have misinformed his subjects ( the noble compatriots), despite his party's electioneering promise of ending Boko Haram within few months in office which they have failed to fulfil," Bako said.
Villagers living around have been advised to run for safety, as the sects reinforced for continuous attacks.
