Jesus was not Born on December 25 - Femi Aribisala explains

Jesus was born on the Feast of Tabernacles. He was not born on “Christmas Day.”

Jesus was not born on December 25. That is the date of a pagan festival of the sun god Tammuz merged with Christianity under Constantine. However, the evidence is overwhelming that Jesus was born during the Feast of Tabernacles.

Coming of Elijah

Zachariah, John the Baptist’s father, was ministering in the Temple when an angel told him he would have a son. He belonged to “the priestly group of Abijah.” (Luke 1:5). Abijah was eighth in line according to the Jewish time-table for priests ministering in the Temple: “The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah.” (1 Chronicles 24:7-10).

That means Zechariah would have been ministering in the Temple in June, when it was officially the turn of Abijah. If his wife therefore conceived in June, John the Baptist would have been born around March the next year during the Passover. It is the Jewish tradition to reserve a special glass of wine for Elijah during the Passover meal, in expectation of his attendance. So it makes sense for John the Baptist to be born during the Passover.

The angel told Zachariah John the Baptist would come “in the spirit and power of Elijah.” (Luke 1:17). Indeed, Jesus confirms that John the Baptist is the expected Elijah. He told the disciples: “‘Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.’ Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.” (Matthew 17:11-13).

Birth of the Messiah

If John the Baptist was born during the Passover, then Jesus must have been born during the Feast of Tabernacles. There are six months between both feasts, and we are told Mary became pregnant six months after John’s mother, Elizabeth:

“(Zechariah’s) wife was expecting a baby, and for five months she did not leave the house. She said to herself, ‘What the Lord has done for me will keep people from looking down on me.’ One month later God sent the angel Gabriel to the town of Nazareth in Galilee with a message for a virgin named Mary.” (Luke 1:24-27). “Your relative Elizabeth is also going to have a son, even though she is old. No one thought she could ever have a baby, but in three months she will have a son.” (Luke 1:36).

Think about it. Does it not make perfect sense that “the light of the world” should be born during the “Festival of Lights;” when lamps illuminate the entire city of Jerusalem? That is the Feast of Tabernacles. It is also known as “the Season of our Joy;” so it makes sense for the angel to tell the shepherds he brings “good tidings of great joy” concerning Jesus’ birth during the joyful season of the Feast of Tabernacles:

The angel said: “Behold, I give to you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For to you is born today, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11).

International feast

Quite appropriately, the Feast of Tabernacles is the only Jewish festival which is for “all people,” both Jews and non-Jews. It is for all the families of the earth:

“It shall be, everyone who is left of all the nations which came up against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Jehovah of Hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be, whoever will not come up from all the families of the earth to Jerusalem to worship the King, Jehovah of Hosts, even on them shall be no rain.” (Zechariah 14:16-19).

The Feast of Tabernacles is also known as “the Festival of the Nations;” showing it is not exclusively for the Jewish nation. All the men of Israel are required to come to Jerusalem to observe the Feast of Tabernacles: “Three times in a year shall all your males appear before Jehovah your God in the place which He shall choose: in the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks, and in the Feast of Tabernacles.” (Deuteronomy 16:16).

This means Jerusalem becomes filled up with visitors during the festival, and they spill over into the surrounding regions including Bethlehem, which is only about five miles away. As a result, there is likely to be a shortage of guest-houses in Bethlehem; accounting for the difficulty of Mary and Joseph in finding suitable accommodation.

Tabernacle of God

In writing about the incarnation of Jesus, John employs the terminology of tabernacles. He says the Word became flesh and “tabernacled” among us. (John 1:14). Indeed, one of Jesus’ spiritual names means “God with us:” “‘A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called Immanuel,’ which means ‘God is with us.’” (Matthew 1:22-23). It therefore makes sense that God would choose to come down to earth in the person of Jesus Christ to tabernacle with men during the Feast of Tabernacles.

It is also quite conceivable that the wise men from the east were Jewish rabbis, anticipating the coming of the Messiah according to Daniel’s prophecy. (Daniel 9:24). At the time of Jesus’ birth, the largest Jewish population was not in Palestine but in Babylon, where they had been carried into exile by Nebuchadnezzar. Babylon is east of Palestine; and a “magi” or wise man is another expression for a “rabbi.” Daniel for example, who was named Belteshazzar, was regarded as one of the magi of his time. (Daniel 4:9).

Star of Bethlehem

During the seven-days of the Feast of Tabernacles, Jewish families live in booths built with branches of trees. It is customary to leave a hole in the roof so as to be able to look at the stars at night. Therefore, the Feast of Tabernacles is the perfect time for Jewish magi east of Palestine to notice the appearance of the star of Bethlehem.

That is why it is important to note that the magi did not get to Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’ birth, as erroneously portrayed on Christmas cards. By the time they arrived, Jesus was already a young child: “When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.” (Matthew 2:9).

It must have taken them up to two years to get there, which is why, in the bid to kill Jesus, Herod killed all the children in Bethlehem from two years old and under: “When Herod found out that the wise men from the east had tricked him, he was very angry. He gave orders for his men to kill all the boys who lived in or near Bethlehem and were two years old and younger. This was based on what he had learned from the wise men.” (Matthew 2:16).

All this point to one thing. Jesus was born on the Feast of Tabernacles. He was not born on “Christmas Day.”

  2. Femi,

You said that Zachariah was eighth in line to minister, why then do you say he was ministering in June? Is the eighth month not August?

  3. History, history. The whole world has already unanimously agreed to set the commemoration of his birthday to be Dec 25. No one really knows his actual birthday so go and sit down and talk about more burning issues.

    1. Don't mind the fellow. If 25th December used to be a pagan worship day and Christians decided to take the day away from paganism and give it to Jesus Christ, what is his problem? I don't normally read Femi Aribisala's writings because I rarely see sense in what he writes.

  11. Almost everybody is aware about the challenge against the accuracy of the 25th of December as the date of birth of Christ. So you have not added any great value. Hardly anyone currently knows when he was born exactly but majority have accepted to set a date for his birth to be celebrated annually. Incidentally everybody always emphasize that it is not the day of Christmas that matters but the One that is celebrated that day and the demonstration of God's love signified by that event. So let that day be and leave the controversy.

  19. What Femi will not disclose is that he has his own 'personal church' he started and pastors at Leki area when he could not stay under any church authority. Because his church membership is dwindling as they challenge his inconsistency, evident lack of call and his unwillingness to disclose publicly that he is a 'pastor', he is gradually becoming anti - Christian. He attacks all men of God and sound scriptures everyday.
    Watch out for him

  24. Aribisala,Emmanuel doesn't mean that God come down to stay with us in form of Jesus...It means "God is with us" i.e. we are protected and guided by God. He is not far away from Us. Stop misleading people about God.He is the Alpha and Omega who know the beginning and the end. That's why when Jesus was asked when the world will end, he says only God, the One in heaven knows.

  25. Sure no one really know the DOB of Jesus christ but December 25 is the date of a pagan festival of the sun god Tammuz. His argument is why choose that same date....if you don't know or remember your date of birth, would you choose the date of birth of the Devil for yourself as your new DOB? Would you really want to share the same date of birth with a very bad person or bad event?

Think about it...Christmas day celebration is not christ birthday celebration, its actually the celebration of the sun god Tammuz (which of course is idolatry and not pleasing to God) masked with the birth of christ.

Worst still, Jesus never celebrated his own birthday. If you choose to celebrate it, you can do better on the date issue....but do not let this stop you from popping that champagne you bought already.‎

    1. I disagree His emphasis was on the correctness of the date and not on what the date was being used for before. On the issue of using the day to celebrate Jesus’s birth it depends on individual’s way of looking at it. If a man was observing a pagan festival and now embrace a new faith, what a better way for him to re emphasize his conversion from darkness to light than to convert such occasions to that for celebrating the birth of his new Lord. What is wrong with that.

Besides the bible makes us to know that the so called gods that the pagans worship are no gods. In other words their godship are mythical and unreal. Why demonise a day created by God based on the imagination of men of a certain god that your faith has no respect or recornition for.

If you do not know precisely when Jesus was born and you want to celebrate his birth what is wrong with celebrating Him on the same day you were celebrating your former mythical god. Can we recall that the Greek were so fond of creating imaginary gods of everything. So bad to the extent that after everything they even imagined that there must have been another god that they had probably not created and because of that they created one that they called ‘the unknown god’. Would all days for their worship of these gods become demonized that nothing good should be celebrated on that day? And to say that God sees Christians celebrating Christmas as celebrating one mythical Greek god is funny and makes a mockery of the ominiscience of God as One who have no regards for the motives of people as different from the date they are doing it. Do Christians sing and dance and glorify the name of the Greek god on that day. Do they go to shrine to worship the god. Do they sing Christmas Carols and other songs in praise of that God. Does God no longer see the heart and motives of his people.

  26. Femi is a confusionist. What is new about what he has raised except to just seek attention. Firstly celebration of the birthday of Jesus was not a festival instituted by God. It is a day set aside by men to appreciate God's love for mankind in giving His Son for their salvation and men could decide to set aside any day they wish to do that. However, Femi has actually inadvertently made the December timing more credible. His analysis is contrary to his conclusion. The Hebrew Calendar starts with Nissai the first month which falls into March. So going by his analysis, Zachariah should be ministering sometimes in October, the 8th month. John would have been conceived in October and born in June (9 months after) the next year and Mary would have taken in by April (6 months after Elizabeth the wife of Zachariah conceived John). 9 months after April would definitely fall into December for the birth of Jesus. So what is Femi saying? All those other rationalization with festivals and feasts of Passover, terbanacle etc are his own conjectures which cannot even be used to support his own initial basis.

  28. Good! But not interested. All Iam interested in is that Jesus was born to redeem me and as many that will believe Him. Enlist my name in the book of life and gave me eternal life through His birth, death & resurrection.

  29. Femi Aribisala you always like criticism, if 25th December is being use to celebrate birth of Jesus Christ instead of celebrating the small God is there anything bad in that ?

  30. To add some point of emphasis. First the calender we use today is diff from the one that was use then period. Secondly. This magi was not directed by God's spirit but satan bcoz if it were so, it wouldn't have directed they to herod but satan device a means to inform herod of the birth of Jesus so it can cut him off. God's word it truth so it never miss word. So if God want to inform us the actual date of Jesus birth, he would have specify it in his written word, the bible. Jesus christ nor his apostles or disciples never celebrate Jesus birthday so who are we to celebrate his birthday when if never said should. Christmas celebration start about 200yrs after Jesus death. Dec 25 was the day for the celebration of the climax of the birth of the new sun, the roman festival of the god of the sun. We need not be deceive. Christmas celebration is a pagan festival. Imagine how satan will feel seeing people celebrating christmas. That's how eve was deceive. But the bible say Adam was not deceive but if was pleasing his wife. So those who know the truth in their heart but want to please family and friends in celebrating xmas should remember Adam was also punish for wanting to please others.

    1. Christmas celebration is not a pagan festival. From your comment, it is a Christian festival celebrated on the same day that some pagans were celebrating their God. Note the difference. The Carols, the mass, the songs of praises, the acts of love, the sharing and other evangelistic works that people use Christmas to celebrate are not pagan activities. Or are you saying that God would condemn people for doing all this on 25TH December bcos some people in ancient years ignorantly worship and celebrate an imaginary mythical non existent god on that day.Or is God so unmindful of the motives of men in doing whatever they are doing?

    1. I have read about the controversy on the issue of December 25th not being the day of birth of Jesus over 30 years ago from Jehovah Witnesses publications. So there is nothing original about the controversy that Femi is generating. Unfortunately the basis he has even used made nonsense of the subject of his claim. The basis he has used completely made him to disprove himself. He said Jesus was not born in December but the basis he used points to December as the month of birth, at least, of Jesus. See my earlier analysis.

  39. Undoubtedly, Femi is looking for cheap attention and popularity. As it was earlier recounted, his church is dwindling in membership and he is seriously looking for membership! On a more serious note, your faith and commitment to your Creator is what is more important than celebrations. You are free to celebrate Christ's birth at any time of the year. What is more important is whether or not your faith remains outstanding and committed to him.

  40. The Roman Empire was occupying Judea as at the birth of Christ. Christ was born during a census ordered by Rome, the reason Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem. These personalized references from the Holy Bible written many 100s of years after Christ seem to quote from the wrong books. Jesus was born in modern era, civilized world, Rome occupied many parts of the world then. So I will tell Femi that belief in the Bible and God does not stop him from reading other books, God created all knowledge. So do more work, or just take it as it is more universally accepted. Merry Xmas!
