Igbo community in Diaspora calls for release of Kanu on Xmas day

Reactions have continued to trail the detention of the Director, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, as Ohaneze Diaspora, an Igbo group, comprising Igbo in the Diaspora has called on the Federal Government to unconditionally release him and other detained activists today, Chismas day.

The group noted that the failure of government to holistically address the underlying issues of marginalisation and restructuring to true federalism gives life to the separatist agitations.

President of the group, Biafra Buchi Diboh, in a statement, said that the continuous incarceration of Kanu by the Department of State Security, DSS, after a Federal High Court granted him bail was undemocratic and illegal.

According to the Diboh, the Nigerian constitution guarantees freedom of speech and association, the right to self determination which is an inalienable right of all indigenous people by virtue of which they can freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development.

“It is weird and intolerable that the Nigerian state won independence from the British Colonial Government in the first instance on the basis of the right to self determination such that Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and other self determination agitators were never arrested by the British colonial authorities in the course of advocating self rule,” he said.

Continuing, Mr. Obuh said:“The Nigerian state has oddly chosen to maim, detain and kill those seeking self rule on the same premise as the founding fathers did. We warn that no nation can ultimately be built or held together by force just as no marriage/association should be by force.”

  2. Emerald Ije,

Your name sound like that of someone from the east and yet you speak exactly like someone in bondage who knows not. You only use your mouth to bring down curses upon your generation. Continue to speak against truth and lies will destroy your generation. Nnamdi Kanu and all supporters of Biafra restoration will continue to speak the truth. Ask yourself why your silly leaders are disobeying the same court they are running to for judgement. It pains me when fools like you write from the pit of hell.

Judgement is coming soon for all liars, deceivers and those holding the poor to ransom and carting away their resources for personal use. One day your generation will regret your comment and false ideology.

Ekoh the word to qualify people like Emerald does not exist yet. Only a phrase exists - Messengers from the pit of hell.

  4. Nigeria can never be a country. Why will some people feel happy over other people's incaceration and inhuman treatment? If Kanu Nnamdi was a footballer the same people who called him names will sing his praize. USELESS COUNTRY.
