Ex-NIMASA boss re-arrested outside court

Security operatives, on Monday, re-arrested a former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi, outside the premises of the Federal High Court on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Akpobolokemi was picked up by mobile policemen and plain clothes operatives, who bundled him up and forced him into an awaiting bus just as he stepped out of the court premises.

His re-arrest came shortly after his trial over alleged N2.6bn fraud before Justice Ibrahim Buba was adjourned till January 18, 2016.

Aside his ongoing criminal trial before Justice Buba, there is another N3.4bn fraud charges pending against him and nine others before Justice Saliu Saidu of the same court, which has been adjourned till January 29, 2016.

Akpobolokemi, who was dressed in white on Monday, had just been released from the prison custody on Friday after he perfected a bail of N50m granted him by Justice Buba.

He had resisted the move to re-arrest him, claiming that he was on bail, but he was pushed, overpowered and bundled into a waiting bus by security operatives, while his lawyer, Dr. Joseph Nwobike (SAN), looked on helplessly.

    1. When you steal with impunity, it's definitely called for. People should be afraid of their atrocities while they were in public office and nothing more.

    1. It's truly insulting to the sensibilities of all Nigerians to read some peeps even still are defending looters. It only tells you they themselves are thieves.

  3. Onanymous, may you experience same. This is a democracy. If one arm of government chooses to disobey the orders of another arm of government, you are asking for chaos. This smirks of military authoritarianism. You will soon be picked up on the street for speaking against the government. Wait and see.

    1. You imagine people should go in stealing and exploit the defects of our democratic system. No. They should be picked up anywhere and anytime.

  4. The money laundered in this country is too much... So even if dem like let him be bundled, tumbled, and bound into the bus.... I watched the video.... He deserves it... People stone and kill petty thieves and we say well they deserve it, but once in a big looter is arrested, we say this is democracy, as if democracy is ticket to laundry.... We should be wise.... Those who expose these people have facts and the culprits know that they stole, but only lucky the law is there to protect but the good, bad and ugly...
