Electricity tariffs set to increase – Fashola

The Federal Government on Tuesday unveiled its blueprint on infrastructural development for Nigeria.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, outlined the government’s plan for the country in the three sectors and noted that electricity tariffs, particularly in populous areas and industrial clusters would increase when the new rates are unveiled.

Fashola, at his maiden press conference at the headquarters of the former Ministry of Works in Abuja, stated that the government would prioritise the completion of ongoing power projects and would consider setting up embedded power generation stations at industrial located in commercial centres in various states.

He said, “We will want state governments to help us identify and enumerate the very populous, industrial and commercial clusters in their states where we can provide embedded power. This will make life easy for those who are involved in manufacturing, fabrication and other related activities.

“Perhaps the tariffs here, honestly, may be slightly higher than what is obtained, but the truth is that there will be a significant improvement on what we have and we will need the collaboration of Discos to achieve this.”

The minister also spoke extensively on the government’s plans for the works and housings sectors.

  4. Why won't they increase electricity tariff when they have multiple portfolio as ministers. I wonder how Nigerians will manage to pay bill at a higher rate with the proposed reduced minimum wage of less than 18,000. APC is a leadership without foresight and a bunch of people who take much delight in people moan in agony. We are been led by people who have no sympathy on human; APC is a manifestation of Book Haram in government and in high places.

  5. We know your type Joseph. You're enemy of progress. If APC increase electricity tariffs and supply us with light will it not be better than PDP era that we pay for what we are not enjoying?
Fashola was given tripple portfolios because he has the ability to do it as confirmed by his performance as Lagos State governor. If dollard like you is giving only one portfolio, you can never achieve anything.
You wait and see how the change promised by APC will materialise. When you PDPigs were there for 16years,what was your achievements?

  7. This is common sense. If we pay more and can get the electricity, it's fine.
If you just stop and think, how much do people spend per night to fuel generators? At that you can't even afford to power the gadgets you need with the gen.
Before you call these people an animal, do your research and find out how much is paid in countries where power is stable. It doesn't come cheap!!!
