Child Abduction Saga: Davido apologises to Dele Momodu, fans

Popular Nigerian popstar, Davido, has apologised to Dele Momodu and his fans for his conduct over the baby abduction drama which has rocked his plans and been in the news since Tuesday.

“Mr. Dele Momodu I Apologise but …U didn’t have to…,” the artist, who had engaged the Ovation Magazine publisher in a war of words, tweeted minutes ago.

The music star and his sister, Ashely, had on Tuesday been stopped from travelling to Dubai with the child by immigration officials at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in response to a petition by Momodu that the child had been abducted.

Despite the apology, the artist insisted the allegations against him were untrue, saying, “All these lies being put on me … no be today … I have so much to say but in respect for my daughter I will keep quiet … I apologise.”

He thanked his supporters and those “bashing” him, adding, “The truth will come out! Even if I don’t keep her, she will grow up to know I fought for her.”

Sophia’s lawyers had in a petition to the Director-General, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, alleged that the baby had been forcibly taken from her on July 11 at Ashley’s house in Lekki after she was tricked into going there.

The petition also claimed that repeated efforts by Sophia to get her baby back since then were unsuccessful, leaving her to turn to friends and her cousin, Dele Momodu, for help.

The Ovation Magazine publisher had accompanied Sophia to alert immigration officials, sparking a war of words between the two.

Momodu took to Instagram and Twitter, posting photos form the airport and mocking Davido over his inability to use his influence to have his way.

“All the phone calls to Abuja by Davido’s powerful family failed to impress the highly professional officers at MMIA as they tried to travel illegally with a seven month old baby they had seized from her mum months ago!” he wrote in a post.

Davido, who had initially, expressed disappointment in Momodu, however, tweeted in the early hours of Thursday, “I leave them for God.”

In another tweet, he explained that he did not deserve all that was happening as all he had ever done “is to love that baby”.

Earlier, an angry David had told Momodu he should be ashamed of himself. “You should be ashamed of yourself!! God bless you still,” he tweeted.

Momodu, who also put up a screen shot of a chat between David and Sophia in which the artiste insulted him, said in a post, “No one no matter how wealthy or powerful has the right to forcefully detach a baby from her mum… Nigeria is not that lawless!”

Sophia, who says she has been denied access to her daughter for months, is however worried that the baby could be sneaked out of the country via land.

She has also asked the Department of State Security, the police and the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to intervene in the matter.

Momodu has yet to respond to the apology.

Meanwhile, the singer hinted that he will continue to provide for Sophia Momodu. “I won’t let the mother of my child be in the streets,” he tweeted after after a fan said he shouldn’t have agreed to pay Ms Momodu monthly allowances.

  3. I saw a sooty media war brewing when Dele was cast in the mold of a villain. It's good, Davido, that you have decided to initiate a damage control. Now that you have put things in perspective, move on. Your daughter will someday look out for you. If it is for real that the comment of yesterday was actually written by Chief (sorry if I got the title wrong) Ademola Adeleke, then I understand why so much filial love radiates in your genes. One Love, bro!

  4. I expext Dele Momodu as a Yoruba man who I think should be concerned about the wellbeing of a young baby to show more understanding in this matter. He should be more concerned with counselling his niece and helping her off cannabis which can be injurious to the health of this innocent girl, rather than fighting ego fight with the Adelekes.it is an incontrovertible fact that the baby is fathered by Davido, abi? So where is the abduction here? If you have a woman like this sister of yours who they say is on cannabis and medical examination on this innocent baby have shown she has traces of drug in her system, would you have left the baby in her care? I honestly think you are beefing the Adelekes. Go and help your niece first if you sincerely love her as you and your wife claimed.

    1. Pls let's not jump into conclusion here. Was there any test conducted on Sophia to show she had cannabis in her system? nobody has the right to separate a 2 mths old baby from her mum even if she's guilty, is it Davido that is a saint? If thy care so much for the baby, why not help the mother also. Why take baby out of the country wt out sophia's consent. Dele Momodu has nt done anything wrong here, He's like her father and must support her which I believe any sane person should do. If the Adelekes don't have anything to hide, then they should have involved the momodus in all they r doing for the baby after all the baby belongs to both families.why would Dele beef the Adelekes? He is very ok. U people are biased and not realistic and take heed u who thinks u r standing lest u fall!!!

    2. Even if Sophia is on drugs.which I know it's not true. Why would Davido sleep and make baby with her. That it is to show he is also into drugs and sleep with women unprotected. She is can make Davido sleep with her, make a baby and she carried the baby for 9 Months and gave birth to the baby. Then she is fine and not its not drugs. Davido being a star is not enough reason for some ignoramus to support him for all he has done wrong. First respect your child, the mother and her families. We all should rest in he case since he has apologise to Dele Momodu.

  5. Baby fathers indeed.see kids fathering innocent children without knowing what LOVE nor FAMILY or even raising children is all about.since africans have forgotten about culture and respect and imbibed western cultures when single parenthood seem these days to be nothing, then let them face the consequences.its a shame. It's now the new things in vogue for Nigeria celebrities
