Former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has been granted bail by a FCT High Court despite the argument by counsel of EFCC that it was too risky to grant him and others bail.
Dasuki is standing trial alongside Bashir Yuguda, former Minister of state for Finance and Shuaibu Salisu, former Director of Finance in the office of the NSA.
Also named as defendants in the case were former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, his son Sagir Attahiru and their company Dalhatu Investment Limited.
Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N250 million.
Dasuki, others must produce a surety each who must be a serving or retired civil servant not lower than the rank of a director.
The civil servant must also show possession of a property within the FCT worth the same amount, the judge ordered. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

The conventional courts will certainly frustrate the very worthy war on corruption. This man looted billions of dollars and yet the court has granted him bail in the sum of some paltry Naira amount! The criminals are likely to jump bail and cause the bail amount to be paid off from the huge proceed of the fraud. We need special corruption courts to handle corruption cases.
ReplyDeleteIt is quite unfortunate. PMB may not be able to achieve much. The people will soon loose their patience. There is no way the govt can win the war against corruption if those accused of corruption are tried in the regular courts. Most of the cases may not be concluded in the next ten years. These people know how to collude with lawyers nd judges to circumvent justice. Special courts must be created for quick prosecution of these people. Quick prosecution will ensure that those who are innocent don't suffer for long nd the quilty get appropriate punishment without unnecessary delay.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Some time ago, bugari said he was gonna set up special courts in all 36 states. I don't know what happened to that plan. These criminals should be tried in the international courts. The local courts would only dance to the tunes of these wealthy criminals. If buhari is serious about fighting corruption to a stand-still, then these criminals should be tried in the international courts. Imagine granting bail to those animals despite all the glaring evidence against them!!
DeleteWhen Buhari looked and so that the culprits in this case are all northerners and his Muslim brothers, he quickly gave informal instructions to the attorney general who is equally a Muslim brother who then transmitted directives to the judges..fellow Nigerians real corruption has began..as I speak the previously convicted culprits are relaxing in their mansions and then the masses are only talking.
ReplyDeletebuhari has nothing for this country
ReplyDeleteMy people, we advocate for rule of law as set by the west but that's not the solution to our problems. The judge did not err but applied what the rule said. Also bail money is just a deposit until judgement is carried out. The present govt got it wrong by focusing on prosecution instead of prevention. Prevention they said, is better than cure. He's spent almost one year on prosecution without achieving anything
